Second hand?
I considered the Saris, but went with the Kuat.
It exceeds your budget, but shortly after I bought mine I did see one on craigslist for a great price. We'll see what the longevity is like, but my Kuat has a nicer finish/attention to details than my Thule T2. |

+1 for craigslist. I bought my Kuat a couple weeks ago after coming terms with the fact i wont find one used. Went with an REI 20% off coupon. After taxes, I paid $500, and then im gonna get $50 back on dividends. But as soon as I brought it home, I saw the same rack on craigslist for $200!

Regarding Longevity - their warranty is great and no questions asked. I had a tray fail on my Kuat and they had a new one sent out same day. Only thing I don't like about it is that the bikes don't sit on one piece of metal and it's all bolted together. not a big deal if you're on normal roads but you have to be careful if you're heading down some gamey mountain or minimum maintenance roads. I'm seriously thinking about a LoLo rack for mountain bikes though and leave the Kuat on my wife's car. |
