The decline of Western Civilization LA punk scene in the early 80s..
I like Gimme Shelter and the Last Waltz as well, but didn't wanna pile on too much. |

Decline shaped my musical taste when I discovered FEAR. I've gotta add The Kids Are Allright to the list. I had no idea what The Who were all about until I watched it - I've probably watched it a few dozen times since seeing it in a theater.

Was the second one the metal one? That was pretty depressing. I can only imagine what followed...

Alchemy (Dire Straits, 1983). Have a copy on vhs somewhere. Such a great band and performances.
Roxy, The Movie (Frank Zappa and the Mothers). Have yet to see the recently released movie, but have listened to the music for years. Some clips from the movie, and a lot of the soundtrack, are on the tube of You. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2a0ux53dKY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D7w0aHjUGE Sunshine Daydream (Grateful Dead, Veneta 1972). The full movie used to be on the tube of You, but it's been removed, so now one has to watch it in bits and pieces. Last edited by WNC rider; 04-19-2019 at 03:21 PM. |

metal years was decline 2. decline 3 was about street punks in la in the 90s and there were some deaths due to the house they were squatting in catching fire during filming. also the bands in it are not good. no ones riding hard for litmus green.

This might seem a bit out of left field -- especially for someone who keeps looking for the [x] Like button on all the posts about Gimme Shelter, Stop Making Sense, or anything Zappa (père ou fils) -- but if you're a fan of concert films it's well worth checking out Michael Jackson's This Is It.
It's not a concert film per se; it's a film of the production rehearsals that led up to a concert which never happened. That infused but unspoken tragedy is subplot enough to make it captivating. But if you want to see what it really takes to pull off a bona fide Big Rock Show™ this is one of the best examples I've ever seen. [Trivia: This Is It's annoyingly sycophantic Production Director happens to be the same guy who choreographed the Dirty Dancing movie >20 years earlier.] |
