Did the $475 include the cost of the faucet? I know there are some pretty pricey ones out there.

I'm in full agreement with this.
You asked them to provide a service, they told you a price for that service. You agreed to the price and they provided the service, and you paid them.
How are they in the wrong?
Why would it make you happier if she spent the whole afternoon there?

you agreed. so pay. now is not the time to debate the amount charged. if you felt it was outrageous, you should have called around for other quotes. sorry to say but she didn't screw you. look in the mirror to find that person.

yes, it is high. Here there is a one hour minimum then hourly in 15 min increments.

The time to question the orice was when it was given. If you go had asked how long, she probably would have said it was goung to take an hour, then maybe you could have negotiated.
You paid her for how much she knows, not really how long it took.

I agree with you folks. The terms of the job were set even if unfair and agreed upon and the work was provided. Reality is that there is overhead from any business and expertise involved. The other consideration is your location. I live in a relatively low-middle class area of NY.

My laborers get $20 an hour and I get $35-$50 per hour for their time since I have to pay them, insurance, gas and other expenses. For electrical and plumbing work it isn’t uncommon to get $75-$100 per hr since it is a more specialized trade. These prices can vary widely depending on the area you live in.

You got ripped off. Seems to be a common practice for a lot of tradesmen. And one reason why I have a very low opinion of most of them.

Yeah, curious to see how this ends up. Just recently had my plumber out to redo all the underneath stuff on the kitchen sink, flush & service the furnace and HW heater, and replace the HW heater pump with a new one for half of that cost and took an extra hour of time.
I live in a really expensive area where we have to schedule them way in advance because they are so busy too.

Lightbulb

Excellent reason to encourage kids to opt for trade school instead of college. Far better investment.
A well-spoken and skilled plumber with superb customer service skills can easily make serious coin!

I had to have a valve for the toilet replaced and didn't have time to make 3 trips to the hardware store and all afternoon for the job, so I called a well known company. They went into the attic and took 3 pictures. I got 3 options back for $10,000, 12,000 and more for the 3rd option. Financing was offered for each quote to repipe the entire house. They said the pipes were too deteriorated to replace the fixture and left. My wife called the MIL's handiman who did the job in 45 minutes for $125.

I seriously hope you can get some relief for the charges. No matter how you got there it is outrageous.
