I have had a terrible bike year, how is yours?
It could always be worse of course but...
As some might know, about a month ago I noticed a crack on my hampsten strada bianca. Not much progress there, I was going to get it fixed but haven't really had the time to do it. I also have another road bike so I have been ridding that instead, an English. Well, yesterday I was fixing something up, getting ready to go on a ride and what do I see. Oh yeah that is right, what looks to be a crack... Same process as before, take some of the paint off, that is right, a crack. Another bike that has not made it to 1000 miles, I have had this for a bit but it was more of my weekend ride. Not sure what the hell I am doing wrong lol. Well, this really sucks. I messaged Rob English and he has been pretty awesome. He told me he would repair it for free if I was the first owner, since I am the second owner he repairs/updates bikes for 50% of what he normally charges. Well, it is not going to be cheap but at least for 50% I can get it done properly. There is 1 positive thing, I am going to get ride of the ISP (sorry ISP loves, I just don't like them), get to paint the fork, change the color (still undecided because I just LOVE this color) and maybe go electronic shifting (either EPS or etap, kind of inclined with going etap). So.... I am sad but its life so smile on my face, lets all have a good thanksgiving. A second of silent for this one It will come back better than ever. |

bikes? have been fine.

Don't live in a salty area, roads are fine, do weight a bit more than the original owner of this fame, on the other frame though I am not sure and it was just a weird place where it crack. That said I don't think this is a weight thing, specially where the crack developed. Things just happen sometimes, lets hope its not the 3s thing and my only non cracked bike, cracks too |

1) "get rid of ISP": YES! 2) "paint the fork": YES! 3) "change the color": NO! (imo, of course...I love that blue, and it really fits the English aesthetic. 4) "electronic shifting": SURE! (as long as it's not only e...). Anyway, it will be better, and that bicycle is worth it. At least your issues were not health-related,etc., of course. So, Happy Thanksgiving. . . |

My thoughts as well. Updating the frame to be internal electronic is a great move. especially if it can be done to support both Di2 and EPS (and that goofy eps charging port on v2). Getting rid of the ISP, totally get it. they aren't for everyone. English is definitely worth fixing! (as is the Hampsten, but that's a different kinda fix) |

I'm sure Hampsten will repair it under warranty. All you need to do is send it back. You pay a lot for a bike, you should be good customer service.

There's absolutely no upside to delaying, either. Make the time. If you have to, take a day off from work to do it.

Another crack on a second bike has to suck, sorry. Also interested in where its cracked. Less than 1000, a defect of some sort in the area of the crack? Keep the smile going, and happy holidays.

At least the cracks were on your bikes and not your body. Ask me how I know.
The English crack was really weird tho, at the TT/SP fillet. Maybe too much heat? |

Bummer
I too found a crack on one of my bikes, also steel from a reputable builder. It was 4 years old and they made me a brand spankin' new one. Other than that... Not bad. Last edited by charliedid; 11-20-2017 at 07:41 PM. |

It's actually been a good year for riding, I'll pass 8000 miles in a few days, but with the 32K miles I've ridden in the past 5 years, I'm breaking components instead of frames. Two weeks ago I found cracks in my rear wheel (Easton R90 SL rim) and that rim replaced the Pacenti that cracked before then. More miles equals more money. Totally worth it.

I had a pacemaker implanted a year ago. Afterwards, I couldn't ride 20 minutes without having a meltdown, which is what precipitated the pacemaker in the first place. One hour rides were pointless exercises.
I won't bore you with the details, but numerous tests and pacemaker adjustments could not straighten things out. Until this past September. The doctor UNCHECKED ONE BOX IN THE PACEMAKER'S SOFTWARE. Now I'm good, or as good as a mechanical-doping cyclist can be.
