Advice Needed: Tubulars

So, I've got a pair of wheels that are tubulars that I bought new and never used, although I mounted some Vittoria Rallys on them. In short, I can't work the lumps out of the the Vittorias, so I'm going to try again with some new (and nicer) tires. Any recommendations on some nice mid-range general purpose road tubulars (not for racing)?

Did you try the toe clip strap method to get the lumps out, or at least maybe diminished to usable?

FWIW, I like the LGG Clement/Donnelley 25s.

Step 1 - after gluing, deflate the tire and with firm pressure roll the wheel over a broom stick or appropriate diameter wooden dowel to press the center of the base tape to the rim.

Step 2 - re-inflate the tire and put zip ties on either side of the valve stem forcing the base tape onto the rim.

Comment: Vittoria Rally's are terrible tires.

Did you mean that is reverse order? Zipp ties then inflate. That is what I do with the toe clip straps after the dowel roll.

I'm giving up on the Rallys. I've learned my lesson, so now I just want to replace them with something decent at relatively reasonable cost. I'm just not sure what to replace them with.

i have Vittoria Corsa Evo CXs on one bike, 320tpi and i like them. They go on straight without a lot of pushing to get them centered. Also I have Vredestein Fortezza Pro Tri-comp on another and like them as well. I think these are 320tpi as well. Both seem to wear a little quick.

I always had the same problem with Vitt Rallys, and the Mondials. There was always a little sideways wiggle i could not center, by the valve. Since they were just for training rides, I did not fuss about it much!

Continental Sprinters. I ride the 22s. If they make a 25, I. Et they are pretty plush for you fat tire folks.

Pretty common with those tires but as mentioned, a broomstick, particularly around the valve(making sure the valve hole isn't too tiny for the base of the valve) but Vittoria or other good choices here.
