Carbon Rim brake Wheel 23mm Inner Width

The light bicycle ar56 falcon has an inner width of 23mm. I know 21 inner width rim brake is fairly common now, but this is the only carbon wheel I’ve seen greater than 21.

https://www.lightbicycle.com/Road-bi...available.html

Does anyone know of any other rim brake wheels with an inner width greater than 21?

Yes I’m aware that it’s difficult to make wide inner width rim brake wheels because of braking surface structural integrity requirements.

Thanks in advance

Impressive width, cost and weight.

The inside width is not constrained by the minimum brake sidewall thickness, since the outside width can (and has) grown as well.
The 7mm difference between inside and outside width is not unusual, even for carbon.

My Mavic Allroad (rim brake) wheels are aluminum and feature 22mm inside width, only 25.7mm outside width.

officially, Shimano’s rim brake calipers are rated for up to 28mm external width. It’s on the specs on the BR-R8k page, which I linked. Their R650 mid reach calipers are officially good up to 26mm external. So, not what you asked, but that rim would officially be out of spec for Shimano’s rim brakes. So, not only am I not aware of other rim brake rims with internal width over 21mm, I don’t even know who makes a caliper that is rated for a 30mm external rim. Light Bicycle has a WR56 rim, which looks like identical dimensions for disc only. I wonder if they just took that mold and layup and modified it to add a brake track without thinking if it was compatible with anything…

Fwiw, the widest rim brake rim I was aware of was the Hed Belgium at 21mm internal, 25mm external.

The Easton EC90 Aero 55 (discontinued now) were very wide. I cannot recall the inner width but the rim external width was claimed to be measured at 28mm at the brake track and 30mm across further down on the rim.

Internal on those was only 19mm:

19mm inner for the most name manufacturer modern carbon rim brake rims is pretty standard, as is 21mm for carbon disc brake. The widest I've seen from a name manufacturer for alloy rim brake was the 22mm inner of the Mavic Allroad Elite:

Bontrager XXX TLR wheels have 21mm internal width. Not sure of the external.

I have been looking at a BTLOS set of carbon rim brake road wheelset, but they don't seem to offer anything as wide as Light Bicycle. I'll be running 32-35mm tires so the wider is appealing.

Something like the with the Light Bicycle AR36 rim brake looks good: https://www.lightbicycle.com/700C-V-...ompatible.html

I'll be using TRP 957 brakes and I'll need to see if they'll accommodate the 28mm OD braking surface (can't see why they wouldn't).

Speaking of the braking surface, it seems like the $20 upgrade for the grooved graphene surface might be a good upgrade. Anybody on the list with experience with it.

Also think I'd go with no rim holes to avoid tubeless tape. Any reason not to?

It depends. Are you building them yourself? It's a pain to fish out the nipples through the valve hole.

No, I’d have light bicycle build them.
