MxxxxxO
Bought this off Dan just about exactly a year ago. Couldn’t tell you why it took me so long to build, other than I was being picky about the build, and then I just lost steam with work distractions and other projects.
Anyhow, finally finished. Super fun project and a very fun bike. - I was worried about the unknown geo, and quite slack seat angle being a bit screwy for fit, but it’s not often you find a low stack Peg so knew I had to at least give this a shot. Somehow the fit is just perfect. Running the saddle a bit lower, and about a cm and a half further back than I normally would, with a shorter stem. Very rare to hop on a bike for a first test ride and feel like the fit is maybe even more dialed than my other bikes. I’ve got a 5mm spacer under the stem and that seems about right. - Rides great. No magic to it relative to all the modern carbon super bikes of the day, but a great ride. Front end feels very stable - again no idea what the head angle is but definitely feels a bit slower than your typical race bike which is fine. - The frame and Falz fork feel incredibly well damped compared to some other steel bikes I’ve ridden. The DT stiffness on a big frame like this just feels great through corners, and the fork has just the right amount of flex to keep confidence in slightly bumpy corners descending etc. It’s been a few years since I’ve had a steel road bike and this seems to solve all the things I disliked about descending mountains on 60cm noodles. - I spent a while waiting to find a light, traditional bar, but this one just isn’t it. Back on the lookout for a 38cm SLC TB or something with more of a flat transition to the hoods. I had this brooks tape lying around, and sadly it’s just not the same stuff as it used to be. So slick and cheap feeling. Like a decade plus ago brooks tape was soft and grippy. Blech. - Veloflex TLR tires look like **** as soon as you put sealant in them. Oh well. - Campy 12 shifting feels much crisper than 11. Love the front shifting. Maybe it’s those fancy new cables. - Bike weighs more than 18 lbs (!!!). Again everyone will say weight doesn’t matter, but for me it definitely does. This will be a great bike to have around for long Flatish or rolling rides, but definitely feels heavy climbing. - The braking on WTOs is unreal. Better than Enve, better than Zipp. Impressive stuff. Just wish they made these rims wider! My 25mms measure exactly 25mm. I’m so used to getting free width these days =D - Probably going to swap to a Falz V2. The clear on this one has yellowed and I definitely have room for a 27 or 28 in the rear, so would be nice to match that up for a bit more rubber. Anyhow, super fun bike. And I can’t get enough of the paint job. So rad. ![]() Last edited by geordanh; 06-06-2023 at 12:31 AM. |

Looks amazing! I'd say the wait was worth it w/ re to build. The only non-custom still on my bucket list. Enjoy!!

Lovely.
Surprising to me, since my ~2007 Duende, with Chorus 12 calipers and HED Belgium+ rims accommodates 28s with plenty of room as long as they measure true. |

interesting, with the V1 fork? I haven't tried a 28mm in mine yet but it looks pretty tight with the 25s. The rear looks to have plenty of clearance, more than I had expected. I think the ride is going to be damn near perfect with some bigger tires.

Very nice proportions. The paint is really nice. I like the brown leather on the bars. I think a matching saddle would really tie the room together.

Nice!! My size too!!! Don’t feel bad about taking a year to build it up!! I have a LOVE #3 that is going to be on the road soon…… only 2 years after picking it up here on PL. Distractions, other projects etc. Great looking build. I absolutely LOVE my Campy 12s…… and Pegs of course too!!

Didn't know you'd joined the party too! These just look so clean. Really nice build.
I don't need any more bikes, but if I found a 56 for a reasonable price, I'd have a hard time saying no. |

That is all very excellent. The Bodega will do a painted fork for you and luckily white is easy to match - though just getting that one sprayed is maybe cheaper. I agree that colorway is one of the best they've ever done. Lakeside Bikes here has been ordering older paint schemes with different base colors and it's been pretty sweet to see. The ride is what really matters though. Each of mine make me smile every time I'm on them. And that's what truly matters.

No, sorry for being unclear -- mine has the original Ouzo fork, and I'd have thought that even the V1 Falz had more clearance. If memory serves, 28s were more iffy when I had it built with 11s, the 12s calipers have loads of clearance.

Will give it a go and report back. Sure would be cheaper getting this fork reblasted vs a new falz they’re pricier than I remember them being
