Built a frame, why not

I think the easiest way to explain why I built this frame is that I quit my job, went back to grad school, and needed a good project to keep my hands busy. Got the frame done at the end of 2021. Wow, there are some ugly welds on it, but it works. Next time I'll leave it to the professionals, I think. It has already gone through a lot of tinkering and a couple of paint jobs. Still making little tweaks. Current color is prismatic pmb-2736, which goes black or midnight blue depending on the light.

Anyway, you can see what it does: 700x50 with plenty of mud clearance, dynamo lights with dropper routing in the rear, trp hylex with microshift bar end, etc. Geo for long rides and lots of dirt and fun.

I rode about 20K on frame I made back in 1981, hanging in my basement, don't know what to do with it. Should give it away, but can't

Headbadge is in the works! Working on a simple copper one with hand files and vinegar for etching, but we'll see. Might still buy some jewelry.

I'll post little updates or build tweaks and a ride report or two in coming months. Hoping to get a short tour or two in this summer and really put it through its paces. Would like to put as many miles on this thing as it will take, but if it ends up hanging on the wall at some point, I'm fine with that, too.

A bike never seems complete without head badge and name. When I built my first frame in 1981, I took the rainbow apple decals from my Apple 2C for the head and seat tube badge. I then planned to file an "M" on both sides of the fork crown for my last name until I realized that filing into investment cast fork crowns is easier said than done. I therefore stopped at the "V" central portion of the "M" and therefore needed a name that started with a "V". I had a Danish/English dictionary and found the word Vellystig that reminded me of Velocipede and apparently translates to voluptuous in English. My nephew is still using the bike 40 years later. The bike is real need of a repaint but is not bad for a first attempt and has well over 200,000 km on it.
