Ridley X-Night Telenet-Fidea, my gravel ride

I bought this frameset 8-9 years ago from The Pro's Closet, they had a bunch of them at the time - all former Team frames. I believe these are from the 2013 cyclocross season.

Here's one guy from that team...

Here's a cool short video of Bart Wellen's bike:
https://www.globalcyclingnetwork.com...yclocross-bike

My daughter rode this bike when I bought it, and then my son used it for a few years. It's too small for him now though. Living in Boise finally has me in a place with dirt / gravel roads to ride, and after 6 months of being here, I finally got onto them. Finances are really tight right now, so I couldn't buy anything to get this bike on the road, so I had to raid the cabinet and I had these old clincher Challenge Grifo tires (33mm). My first ride yesterday was AMAZING, just so much fun. The roads were wet, but in great condition. Very smooth, and while some sections were firm, others had a this top layer of sand and that, well, felt like riding thru sand. It was an adventure, and I can't wait to get back out there.

I extended my planned riding time by about 45 min because I was having so much fun - just like I usually do when I ride the mountain bike. That never happens when I ride the road bike.

I had this listed for sale here 7 months ago - I am thrilled it didn't sell.

My only complaint was that braking was nearly non-existent. Using Euro-X brakes with generic pads. I will get some SwissStop blue pads on soon, which should help. I am wondering if I should swap the brakes to Avid Ultimate Shorty.

I hear you on the Euro-x brakes being underwhelming. They are very light and have good mud clearance but lack any toe-in ability. I think your urge to swap to a more modern canti is the right move. Alternatively a mini-V brake will give you better power but less mud clearance.

All in all a very classic looking cx bike!

Always loved those Ridley cross bikes (and Pozzato’s classics ride). I bought a disc version of their entry level aluminum cross bike in 2015 however and it was a pig. Returned it in favor of a Trek Crockett which I ended up loving.

Would still be interested in riding one of their carbon/canti versions some time.

Very cool. I'm a sucker for classic rim brake CX bikes and always loved these old team edition Ridleys. It was very tempting when you listed it for sale, despite already owning a non-team version. Glad you were able to hold onto it and find a use for it.

I raced mine with the same Avid Shortys and SwissStop Blue combo that you're considering. Stopping power and modulation were very good with them. I would also swap in some Black Prince pads when running the carbon tubs and braking was good with them, too. The forks on these things are super stout, so you shouldn't run into any brake chatter issues.

That looks great. I've got a set of Tektro CR-720's if you want to replace the blingy-but-not-as-effective Euro-X brakes.

Looks great! I'm glad you didn't convince me to buy it from you! (I actually found a Crockett as well.)

This is great to hear. I have a set of the blue pads on the way to me. Now to find a set of used brakes....

Maybe that was my problem. I did have those at one point and I remember being terribly disappointed and selling them right away.

Nice bike. I really thought about buying it when you had it for sale.
