A recent PM reminded me to check in on this question of Wi.De versus Stigmata....

Serial bike owners know that feeling when there is one bike that resonates more than the others. The Wi.de does that for me... and so did the Stigmata. This isn't surprising when one considers how much they have in common. Same head angle and rake, similar tire clearance, lightweight, quality carbon construction, etc. They are both snappy without being too stiff (think Hakka). With the right tires, they are fun to ride on dirt and on pavement. These are both terrific for the rides I do which cover pavement and dirt equally. The Wi.de (or that Stigmata) is the bike I would grab on my way out of a burning house.

I like the fit of the Wi.de slightly better and it is maybe a touch more comfortable overall. The Open looks a bit better to my eye.

Also, Ekar. It has grown on me. Wireless AXS is excellent in many ways, but the Campag hoods, brakes and cassette ratios are terrific too. Cables vs battery...it is a toss up given how well both systems work.

I hope to see this one this summer here on MV. In fact, I think you should rent a van and bring all your bikes down so I can see and test ride them

I just picked up a pair of these as well (700x33), haven't had a chance to take them for a spin yet though. I hear good things, hopefully they're great, given the price. price sure has gone up on tires the last couple years (along with everything else

The 2.2 Cava is a hoot. They won't achieve any aero speed records, but they roll well like you would expect, especially on dirt. A bit loose on this damp slippery morning.

Open WI.DE

A recent parts shuffle landed Growtac brakes and an AXS XLPR kit here. Works super well, and the ease of wrenching is refreshing.

I rode the Growtac brakes at The Black Fly Challenge on Saturday and they worked great! How are those new tires?

The Growtacs are a totally viable alternative to hydros, imo. They stop about as well as the Paul Klampers but instead have cable routing that doesn't fight with routing positions on most modern framesets. As someone who frequently moves parts around, it also is nice to get a break from bleeding wet brakes.

The 2.2 Cava is a peculiar tire. It has a Compass-like (standard) casing, but it is more of a file-tread than a slick. Usually running tires this wide invites a situation where knobs are also sensible. I'm not sure what the ideal use case is for it.... I was riding some slippery old paths the other day, and that's difficult for any tire, but they did hook up nicely on dirt. Plenty of cush at 20psi.
They should make the Rose Race in 2.2 - that tire is a great all rounder.

Haven't tried any of the Ultradynamico tires yet, but like the look!
