Dave makes the absolute most beautiful fillets. I have two one with terraplane and one without, both are gorgeous and wholly functional.

He is most definately in need of conversion on the hot dog thing though, that just isn't right.

I'm curious, Dave, or someone who knows the bikes really well, what is the difference between the K Special and the Terraplane?

Hey thanks for the comments and question.

To answer the question - The JK Special is a proprietary mix of Reynolds tubing (953, 853 Pro and custom chain and seat stays made for me by Reynolds) and lugs by Llewellyn. The JKS is a modern steel race bike - no holds barred. It can be had with a sloped top tube (the original JKS) or a level top tube (JKS Classic).

The Terraplane is a seat stay option that can be had on my of my builds. The curved Terraplane stays can be added to a JKS or most of my standard builds and they provide a very small amount of rear wheel travel that allows the rear wheel to stay in more consistent and better contact with the surface - this gives a hunkered down, stuck to the floor feeling that encourages the rider to carve hard around corners.

So the JKS is a model and the Terraplane is an option to that can be added to the JKs or other framesets.

Thanks, that was very informative and definitely increased my longing for the bike. As a small guy, a little extra compliance really increases my stamina on the bike. And my next bike will no doubt be a lightweight no-holds barred type of race machine (my CSI will become my secondary pleasure bike).

One small detail that is quite funny: My most recent ex that I lived with for two years and was also my first love (lots of history) name is "Terra" so maybe we want to omit that from the top tube on the paint-schema sheet. This also lends to the fact that I think we're cosmically connected, what with our hot dog-hating, Tom Waits-loving, bike-obssesed lives.
