Have had the opportunity to put some time in. Still smiling....

Fast forward....why? With the plethora of frames I've been privy to, I may ask, why not?....let's see what new school steel has to offer with modern components.

Well...just my opinion moving forward:

Compliance is the key here. This frame just rides so compliant, I won't get into the "steel is real" debate. Such a nice riding frame! Is it heavier than carbon? Of course it is. At 17.2 lbs complete with pedals, it's worthy. Am I gonna take it out for 3 plus hours with 3K ft of climbing? No. However, this frame is arguably the most compliant frame I've ever ridden. The miles in comfort and ride at a steady rather than furious pace, steel is hard to beat.

I'm at a point in life where I'm not doing fast paced A/B group rides. Mostly solo.

I have to agree with what you just said. My AR is for long steady hours in the saddle, mainly solo or with a few other around my age that just want to go out and enjoy the ride without the pressure of being competitive with a larger group.
We ride in eastern Lancaster County on saturday on roads that had more horse poo and bugging that cars. Just a nice scenic ride in the country with 34 of us.
My steel ride is just like you described and with 30c tires it rides like a dream with just the slightest spring when out of the saddle pushing the bike.
Nice ride you have and many years of enjoyment.

If I was ever to get another steel frame, it would be that style. With that builder. Very nicely done.

I am intrigued by the bold sentence above. Kinda begs the question which bike would you take for the aforementioned ride? It seems to me you’d like a compliant bike for that much time in the saddle?

Also, 17.2 lbs for a steel bike with pedals? That’s light!

P.S. you have exquisite taste in saddles

17.2 complete is respectable.

I have a super lightweight carbon frame from Kevin Fickling and it's hard not to grab if I plan on a lot of climbing. With regards to climbing, I need all the help I can

I get the horses for courses argument for sure. I will say that my Kirk JKS is in the same ballpark w/ respect to weight and I had no problem out-climbing and keeping up with some friends last year all of which were on the latest and greatest CF DB bikes.

To bring it back around to your bike, I came back to take a second look because it's worth it. Really like the stem and how it compliments the bike!! Enjoy!!

Regarding the comment about his comment about not taking the bike for a long ride in the mountains - I agree that this would be the perfect bike for that. Unless you are racing that route where a lightweight carbon bike might be faster, but on a ride like that I would just want to enjoy being on the bike and a fantastic steel bike can't be beat.

Regarding the bike in this thread - absolutely gorgeous!

That is a 'best of show' work of art there!
The iris cages fit perfectly with the aesthetic too.
Rubber side down for many happy miles!

Thanks for all the positive comments. Aaron builds an incredible frame made to measure. A true Artisan and easy to communicate with. Highly recommend for your next steel build.

Agree with your statement, but I have choices. No debate here via carbon vs steel. I love 'em both. One or the other has it's place in the repertoire of what I want to accomplish. Aaron's bike can accomplish that, but I'm fortunate to pick and choose.

True story my friend. That's a whole different comparison, and another debate

This frame just keeps getting better, along with my fitness......

Looking for a custom steel frame, give Aaron a shout. Great guy, as you all well know. Need real time feedback, I'm a phone call away.

Do you have a weight for frame and fork only for this fabulous bike?

Unfortunately not. I did not weight it before I built it up. Aaron may be able to come up with a reasonable estimate though.
