CAAD13 BB30 help?

Hiya!

I was trying to swap Shimano cranks to a caad13 build I have going using an adapter I was given but there's a lot of side to side play. Can anyone identify this adapter and tell me what I need to get it to work?

Otherwise, any suggestions on what I need to order to get this to work? I just sold my other road bike so early need to get this rolling ASAP!

Picture of the installed drive side BB adapter with the NDS in my hand.

Is there a different adapter I should just get to hit the easy button?

Thanks so much!

Those might be sized for SRAM. Go to Amazon and order a bb30 for Shimano. I recommend buying a high quality one otherwise you'll be disassembling and cleaning often to get rid of creaking.

I agree with OFM - I'd want no extra spacer bits for BB30 setup. It's prone to creaking enough as is. Swap the bearings or swap the crankset.

Those look like the Wheels MFG adapters:

What do you mean by a lot of side to side play? As you can see, those aren't the actual bearings but just some adapters to reduce from the 30mm bearing ID to whatever your crank spindle diameter is.

It MIGHT be a BB30A, which is a little different. I got a replacement frame from Cannondale and they changed the standard lol, I got a screw together wheels mfg which worked great, but lightened the wallet $100.

Is it a 68 or 73mm wide BB?

Its bb30a which requires either a bb that is 5 mm wider on nds (wheels makes one but its pricey) or 5 mm of spacers on the nds, as the nds shell is 5mm wider than bb30. A cheaper option that will never creak is Token Ninja.

I believe all caad13s are bb30a.

Wait... hold on a second. Uhhh...

I think I may have swapped the cups and put the 5mm wider side on the drive side instead of the NDS. One of the spacers here is thicker than the other one.

That said, I don't think changing that will really change anything regarding the slack will it? It's still not taking up all the axle.

So to clarify, I pressed in the bearings already. When I put these adapters in, there's perceptible play back and forth in the crank. My adapter isn't marked as wheel manufacturing or anything, but it looks similar to this.... but I don't have any of the spacers in the picture.

Wheels Manufacturing makes a variety of shims & spacers to eliminate side play. I use their BB30 Delrin adapters on a CAAD9 and a CAAD10. Both frames required thin shims to eliminate side play with the adapters and Shimano cranksets. With the shims installed, I have experienced no noise/creaks at all. I have found the adapters to be an inexpensive and reliable means to install Shimano 24mm cranksets in my BB30 Cannondales.

You'll need spacers or wave washers. Its how bb30a works.

I think the wave washers I have are for the BB30 spindle not the 24mm shimano one...

You don't need to use a wavy washer with Shimano since there is a preload cap to take up the play. You will need to use 0.5 or 1 mm spacers to take up the empty space as much as needed, then use the Shimano preload cap to apply the final preload.

A local shop has the wheel manufacturing shims and also the full bb kit... I'm hoping they have some of the spacers in a parts bin...Might cross my fingers and putter around after work.

Otherwise I'll order the token ninja bb tonight and be done with it.

+1. This is exactly the procedure I use. No play in either of my BB30/Wheels Mfg. adapter/Shimano 24mm cranksets.

Do you both add spacers equally to each side of the crank?
