OT Magnetic Door Catch

We have five sets of fir veneer double closet doors that were equipped with roller catches that never worked (clearances too tight, it takes too much force to open/close them). I'd like to convert these to magnetic catches, and see there are more choices than when I last installed these in 1985 :-).

Concealed round magnets are inset mounted in the top of the door and the underside of the door frame head. Others are rectangular and face-mount on the underside of the door head, with a steel piece that screws to the door.

I'd love to do this with the doors in place and not make this into a major project. Any pointers?

Thanks!

If the doors are nice and flat, this is probably as simple as it looks.
These look easy to install:

Depending on the thickness of your doors these adjustable ball catches might well work too:

If it’s not too late try these:

Add a slim leather pad and they are silent. Mortise them in. No clacking when door closes.

I like the idea about the leather pad to make it quiet.

Yoshi, I'm not yet sure how these mount and can't find a photo of one installed. Can you enlighten me please?

Sorry, here is a better picture:

They do have mounting holes.

If they work in your application these are also really nice, can be easily counterbored with the appropriate sized bit, and don't stick up or out anywhere. Plus the neodymium magnets are wicked strong.

I ended up with these. Very powerful, so I put a layer of cloth duct tape over the magnet to get the right amount of "stick". Works well.
