Wow ... I really wish I hadn't seen that photo! Your work & the design aesthetic / paint on your frames are perfection. Thanks for taking the time to share.

I really like the look of that. Is it customers choice to go with lugs or fillets on the Onesto? I’d like to see the rest of this example.

Thank you.

Yes - it is for the most part the customer choice of lugs or fillets. There are of course a few restrictions or guidelines that may make one more appropriate than the other for a given rider but for many it's an aesthetic choice.

Every time I see something sparklin' shiny and smooth like this, I wonder to myself, "Why bother to paint?? Such a waste!"

Ok boss, we promised to be honest with each other, right?

Er...no...give me titanium, silver, chrome finish over paint....any day!

I don't know why, I have always been attracted to those kind of finish for as long as I can remember. I will accept paint...grudgingly, for the lack of better option.

White is my second favorite color when it comes to bike.

Well, sit tight, I do intend to commission a lugged Onesto JKS in due time.. Like, 2020 at the latest.

I agree, there is something very beautiful about bare metal. I think I'm drawn to the aesthetic of titanium moreso than the ride characteristics. Stainless will get me the ride and the aesthetic..

This is not directly bike related so please indulge me. These are some photos of my father John. John B. Kirk was a foreign and race car mechanic who built me my first proper bike out of a pile of scrap he pulled out of the local dump. It was a Rollfast stingray that he fitted with a "10 speed" seat (not a banana seat) and drop handlebars. That's right....my first bike was a road bike. MY JK Special model is named in honor of John and his portrait hangs in the shop keeping a watchful eye on everything I do and it pushes me to make every bike better than the last.....just as John would have done.

John passed away in 1972 when I was only 9 but he instilled a love of mechanical things well done and without any conscious plan it ended up completely forming my live and what I've been doing since February 20th, 1972 when he left us.

I'm not sure what has me feeling nostalgic this morning and I guess it doesn't matter. I just wanted those that care to 'meet' the man behind Kirk Frameworks.

Great story and thx for sharing this !

It has reminded me of my father who pasted to early in his life due to a bad heart. He was a farm boy and latter a do it all car mechanic among other things. Due to his bad health no one would hire him so he taught himself to do many things including fabricating, welding, and a long list of other trades. From an early age he always took us to work with him, by 14 I bought my 1st car, we pulled and rebuilt the motor an carburetor together, we also fixed many other issues.

He taught me not to back away from a challenge, along with more things that I can count.

PS - I love looking at your work Dave
