Rapha Core Bibs - "Wear and Tear"

IMG_6458.jpg

I purchased 2 pairs of the Rapha core bib shorts a few years back and have worn them very sparingly since. I noticed early on they were beginning to break down and they got pushed to the back of the drawer. Recently, I pulled out the pair shown here and was surprised to see how they have further deteriorated. I shared this with Rapha Customer Service, but was told this reflected normal wear and tear.

Anybody had similar experience with the core line? I have never had issues with the higher end Rapha bibs but was quite disappointed in these.

I have a pair of barely used Core cargo bibs and they are not disintegrating like that but i can tell the side panels are not going to last. They will most likely be my indoor roller bibs.

Chamois is better than a lot of others so for $130 or so, pretty decent deal. Don't like how wide the straps are, and had to size down compared to proteam.

What you are experiencing is very, very 'normal' with Core bibs. Should it be normal? Absolutely not. Is it? Afraid so.

I gave up on Core bibs almost as soon as they were released. I was a wear tester for the original core line and the bibs were great for the price... for a couple of months until they went totally see through. Don't think you'll get very far with CS I am afraid.

Thanks for sharing this. Good info to keep in mind for future purchasing consideration. I've never owned any of the Rapha Core stuff. For bibs, I have had the Pro Team, Classics and Thermal Classics. I've worn out 2 pairs of Pro Team bibs, but that took awhile and I wore them a lot. They started to become threadbare in the rear above the chamois and lost some elasticity overall.

God, that's amazing wear on the Core bibs. I've had classics for close to 10 years. While I alternate among three pairs, I haven't seen anything like that. I've even been in crashes that made hamburger of my upper legs, and the bibs were still in good shape. Spend the extra money on the Classic version.

I have one pair of core bib shorts and they started to look like the picture above. I only buy classic and pro team now.

I have had Pro bibs for years and cannot kill them. (My Assos seem equally durable).

While stored in a drawer they deteriorated further - and that is considered normal wear and tear - yikes!!

I have a pair of Rapha shorts that shown the same wear after a very short life span. I will not buy any more Rapha items - too expensive not to last.

I have exactly the same issue (noticed after less than a year of using them) and had been thinking of contacting Rapha about it. I might give it a go anyway to see what they say...

I probably have 400 days on a pair of classic bibs and they are still not see through

Sounds like the core bibs are rotten

My Core bibs turned out about the same as OP’s. Wear and hand wash probably 2-3 times a month for 2 years before it become visibly worn.
