It's the middle of summer in Houston and a guy was wearing a jacket. I'd assume to conceal a weapon. Could have been two people walking past each other, but add a bike and it makes for a good headline. When I lived in Hawaii, a "cyclist" was hit and killed by a driver in downtown Honolulu. That was the headline. The reality was that a drunk guy was riding the wrong way in a one way unlit alley at 2am and a vehicle turned into the alley and hit him head on. But that's not a good headline.

One of the strangest stories I’ve read in a while. How does a Dr on his road bike get shot by a strange person on a mountain bike on a children’s hospital campus in broad daylight and the suspect gets away? I’d imagine there are closed circuit cameras and security all over the campus? Very strange indeed...

Here’s my theory:

I’m guessing that the shooter was a bad dude, criminal type, probably riding on the shoulder the wrong way - against traffic.

They cross paths, maybe a near miss or braking situation, and the Dr. said “hey asshole, wrong side”

Guy feels disrespected and shoots him.

Why not just wait until the whole story comes out instead of supposition and theories, especially one that reflects poorly on the victim.

Ummm, okay... would it have been better if I wrote that he said “hey, buddy, wrong way” then the criminal swore at him, etc?

I guess I’m selfish in trying to be clever and figure it out before the details are pieced together. I didn’t mean to offend anyone.

We're just a humorous reflection of society here. Out there in TV land, when something happens and there's no data we get treated to "experts" who assume every possible scenario under the sun way before real details come about.

I got your humor and I'm sure no one was seriously injured from it.

On topic, being the Doc for a former Prez and being shot while riding a bike by someone else riding a bike is indeed headline click bait catnip.

Whatever the truth is, it has to be something really off the wall that went down here.

Didn't read anything beyond this thread, but it reminds me of the Mickey Thompson murders. In that case, someone was tried and convicted of hiring the gunmen but the gunmen themselves have never been identified. Perhaps they are in Houston.

More of a curmudgeony post than Peter Pannish post, BK.

You gotta let the people be themselves, even if you have to "lock it" later.

That said, yeah, this will probably go off the rails rather than wither away.

But since they were both on bikes and there was only one gun, not a shootout, I'd say this terrible senseless murder of a doctor is bike related.

I hope they catch the guy. It's really awful, and I am sad for his family and community. And ours.

Take it as you will.

We’ve stayed away from a 2A discussion so far and that was the major intent of that post.

The speculation is human nature, especially given the unusual situation of the event.

Bruce:

The intent of the post was not to stoke a Second Amendment discussion. Rather, it was a reaction to the use of the word “cyclist” in the headline.
