This Sunday 12/3 - Minnewaska State Park

As inspired by BumbleBee Dave.

Couple of us are meeting up on Sunday morning @ 10:30 AM to ride for 3-4 hours. Casual, conversational pace. Expect well groomed carriage roads and blacktop. Road bikes should be fine, fatter tires would be better.

Warm-up recovery beverages likely afterwards someplace local TBD

Weather looks to be upper 30s to about 50F. Should be a chilly start warming up to a comfortable temperature.

RSVP here or to me with your email address.

Come join us!

See Dave's recent thread for ideas:

You beat me to it!

Here's some more info . . .

Meetup at the Lower Awosting lot at 10:30 am. You go through the entrance booth and just keep going straight about 1/10 mile and there's the lot and bathrooms.

The carriage road up to Lake Awosting starts right there at that lot, which them leads around to the Hamilton Point and Castle Point roads, or we can ride back past the entrance book and down past Awosting Falls to Mohonk, or up the hill to the upper lot and the roads from that side out to Millbrook Mountain, Castle and Hamilton Points. The Smiley road that leads down the west side into the village of Ellenville is closed for construction.

Here's the Minnewaska Park website:

https://parks.ny.gov/parks/127/details.aspx

Here's a link to a PDF trail map:

https://parks.ny.gov/parks/attachmen...rkTrailMap.pdf

The preserve is open till 5pm this time of year, which gives us all afternoon.

Let us know if you want to join us so we will know to look for you.

We are figuring on some apres-ride refreshment/food someplace nearby. Mountain Brauhaus at the foot of the mountain, or Gilded Otter in New Paltz are both good possibilities. The Gilded Otter is, in fact, a brewpub and has their own pretty good beers. I've never been to the Brauhaus, but I've heard good things, and every time I've been there on a weekend and headed down the hill their lot is jammed, so I assume it's at least OK!

Here's a pic of the Hamilton Point Road from two years ago at this same time of year. Also here's the google gallery of pics from a few weeks ago:

Looking forward to it, should be a great day of riding.
I have been up to New Paltz lots of times, and been to both restaurants, you can't go wrong with either of those 2 places, though they can both get super crowded on a nice fall weekend afternoon and end up having long waits.

PS.
I'll be driving up from Brooklyn, if anyone wants a ride, drop me a PM.

I would love to go but am attending a film premiere I'm very excited about and I suspect I won't be back in the city in time.

Have a great time guys.
Would be 5 hour RT for me in the car, just a little too much at a busy time of year.

Did the trails on a road bike with GK 28s, not the best but still had a blast. Hope it went well!

Great 28 miles ride . . .

. . . at Minnewaska and Mohonk. We started at Minnewaska at the lower Awosting lot, hit Lake Awosting, Castle Point, around Lake Minnewaska, then down the hill to Awosting Falls, into Mohonk past all the rock climbers, then to Cope's Lookout, then back to the cars and down the hill to the Gilded Otter in New Paltz. Great time! Sorry more forum members couldn't join us!

Here's some pics

This guy passed us on the trail . . .

. . . and we met him again when we got back to the cars. He has converted the Eddy into a straight bar bike. He says he thinks it's about 1980 vintage. He was astounded by Gphin's year old Strasbourg gravel bike.

I couldn't make this one but was actually there on Saturday and also had a great time. If/when it happens again I'll join. I did this route, which was awesome, but gets pretty gnarly (and goes onto not officially opened trails). The loop starting at mile 9.0 is where it gets crazy, and most would consider unbikeable (the guy in our group on 35 mm tires surely would say so). There is a secret hidden reward for the effort though. Starts off with a bear of a climb too.
