2020 Cycling Life Goals

What are your 2020 cycling and life goals?

Here are some I’m thinking of for myself:

● Cut out mid-week drinking.
● Focus on eating less junk.
● Lose enough weight to fit into old clothes.
● Get in a bit more intensity of the bike, including spending some time on the trainer.
● Continue efforts in being less O.C.D. about how many miles I ride.
● Work more on being able to shut work out of my mind in “off” hours.
● Travel a bit.
● Live a little dangerously and do a non-local ride, even one requiring driving.
● Continue work on keeping bike stuff purchases more focused on specific needs and getting rid of things that don’t bring me enough joy. This still requires me to have many more bikes than my wife deems reasonable.
● Work more on not letting things get to me.

Life? Stay alive, ride defensively, stay healthy....as I approach my 7th decade.
Stop 'yelling at clouds', politically..just makes me angry...at least until Nov 2020...

It’s 4:36am PST. My 2020 goal is to see the first sunrise of 2020 on top of Mt Tam.

Retire, which hopefully leads to
riding more which hopefully leads to
actually being competitive in a CX race

and eat better, drink less (but I say that every year)

Try to get more fit thru fewer miles.
Find acceptable routes in the SW Chicagoland area.
Lose weight.......
In general, I hope my life is far, far less chaotic than it was in 2019... the pieces are in place for that to happen.

Simply, to ride more.

A career change has occupied my time since September.

In 2018, I rode 6200 miles. In 2019, I rode 3950 miles.

Ugh.

My goal was to be back on the bike by Jan 1, 2020.
I rode today a total of 8.6 miles at a snails pace.

I actually started riding Dec. 27, 2019, exactly 5 months after my accident.
First ride was 5.4 miles.

Gotta start somewhere...

That’s a 60+% increase over the first two rides! Congrats! Hope the recovery keeps progressing.

For me:

• Start with my 2019 distance (6275 mi) as my 2020 goal. I overshot my 2019 goal a bit and I’m really happy with it
• At least one multi-day ride or trip somewhere to ride. The mid-Hudson Valley is a great place to ride but I could use some horizon broadening
• More rides with other people
• Get rid of all the bike crap in my garage except the stuff I really use.

Find the time and energy to ride for fun instead of just commuting. Setting myself a low bar considering the career and family obligations anticipated (new kid coming soon, demanding 1 year job ending next November).

Great thread!

My goals are:

Get up earlier during the week to ride before work.
Stop being a fair-weather rider and thus ride more.
Signing up for two Ironman 70.3 races
Getting a new carbon 105 or ultegra equipped road bike that i can ride more and not worry about it being “too nice” and becoming a piece of wall art.
