Not the Tour de France. This is a race in England.

For reference, here's the women's TdF website...

Definitely not the Women's TDF... but that probably demonstrates part of their problem... perhaps the name could've used a bit more work...

The race known as the Women's Tour predates the Women's TDF by about 8 years. Originally it was called the Women's Tour of Britain, but as it was the only women's pro stage race in Britain (and one of the largest women's pro stage races in the world), it was usually just referred to as The Women's Tour. Kind of like how the TdF is commonly just called "Le Tour".

Yeah... if the only reason people care about this race is because they think it's a different race, it's probably best if it goes away.

We should probably change the title here.

Man, I would hate to be a race organizer or promotor or whatever constantly having to negotiate and beg for sponsor money, cars, etc. Sounds exhausting and potentially very frustrating.

This is the second thread on this that confused the titles. Clearly this race needs a new name.

Yeah, the name of the race is poorly chosen.

I don't think there's any problem with the race with the name. The issue is ignorance of readers and posters not being careful enough to distinguish names of the race in UK and race in France.

The Women's Tour race was in place before Tour de France Femmes. I don't see the confusion and need for change.

Agree.

Being cyclists here, our cognizance of mis-information for the sport here on ThePaceLine should be self held to higher standards. #OffSoapBox

^^^^^^ This.

In a similar vein, the World Baseball Classic, the international baseball tournament, just concluded a few weeks ago, with the US team coming in third (out of 5 attempts, the US team has only won the World Baseball Classic once). Major League Baseball still calls their league championship the "World Series" - does anyone get confused?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Women%27s_Tour

"Its origins trace back to 2010 when SweetSpot (the company behind the men's Tour of Britain) organised their first women's cycling race, the Horizon Fitness Grand Prix in Stoke-on-Trent."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tour_de_France_Femmes

"From 1984, a women's Tour de France was staged consistently, although the name of the event changed several times - such as Tour de France Féminin, Tour of the EEC Women, Tour Cycliste Féminin and Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale."

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
