I'd say Specialized is correct, the XG-1271 is flat top compatible, as is the XPLR etap derailleur.
Sram is Sram, don't believe everything they tell you. They can produce misleading info at times. |

I run an AXS XPLR drivetrain on my Mason. Initially, I had a Rotor crankset on it, so ran the Eagle chain, thinking the flat top wouldn't work on the Rotor rings. It worked, but was a little noisy, and shifting to the smallest 2 cogs was slightly reluctant and slow.
Simply as an experiment, I bought a Rival flat top chain and threw it on. I didn't change anything else on the setup. Result = immediate perfect shifting and less noise. So in my experience (n=1, etc), while an Eagle chain will 'work', it's not optimal for XPLR. |

that's why I wonder about the Specialized spec
Hard to believe they are specing that combo on a $15K bike and not have it shift perfectly. Maybe a misprint on their website?

saw 2023 Sworks Creo in the shop yesterday, in fact...
Spec does have a misprint in their copy. Pure road Sworks Creo comes with XPLR cassette and derailleur...and flat top chain. Gravel version comes with all Eagle stuff including normal Eagle chain.
