Show me your 1X road or gravel/all road bike please!

Hey Paceline,

There's still not a ton out there when I google search 1X stuff for road and mixed terrain use. There's a bit, but its so anecdotal, and lots of the opinions are obviously from people who haven't tried it. I'd love to compile some info from the brain trust here on 1x riding.
Im interested in your experience specifically with 1X good and bad. I know it has its fans and haters, but i don't want to hear your theoretical hate, or what you read on radavist or wherever, because if you haven't tried it, you haven't tried it. And photos, lots of amazing and cool photos of 1X bikes in rad, off the beaten path places, or at the coffee shop.

Yes, I am building a 1X bike to try out soon, i just want to learn more!

my first cx bike was "traditional" in the sense that it had cantis, 46/36 with a road cassette in the back, and no clutch der.
my new cx bike still has cantis, but now it has a 42 in the front and an 11-42 mtb cassette in the back with a clutch der.
the 1x1 bailout gear is nice on the steep stuff. badadadada im lovin in.

I’ve got a few. Haven’t used FDs in years.

This is my winter ride. 1x9 with a bar end shifter.

The Haanjo is 1x10. 40t front ring with 11-36 cassette. Gearing works well unless your racing.

Just finished this up. 1996 Fat Chance. Using a thumb shifter in friction mode to run the 1x10 drivetrain.
42t ring with 11-34 cassette.

I have a Litespeed Unicoi (YBB softtail) converted to a drop bar 1x10, with an Ultegra STI shifter, Shimano XT non-clutch rd, 38T chainring, and 11-40 Sunrace Cassette. Conti Speed King 26x2.2 tires make it and on/off road bike ideal for the mixed trail and paved riding we have here. It has a chain keeper on the front.
I converted my CAAD10 to 1x11 with a 6800 STI shifter, and Ultegra R8000 rd with the 11-34 Ultegra cassette. 42T NW chainring, no cluch derailleur or chain keeper as this a road-only maxhine. It's my lightest bike at 16.75 pounds. Gear range is fine for the riding I do, almost all solo, no pack riding.

1x 10.

11-36 cassette with 38t upfront. On the flats I'm mostly in the 14t cog on the rear. The only thing I miss is having a 13t cog. In the hills the spread in the gears are fine. Spin out on big downhills but I'm fine with that.

Three wheelsets: 650x2.1/2 for the heavy gravel/singletrack. 650x47 for light gravel. 650x42 for the road.

No racing.

i'm a fan for the right conditions. 1x could never be my "only" bike - but let's face it - i'm just not a 1 bike kinda guy.

Ride Endpoint CoffeeGrinder
1x11 (48 x 11-40)

Great for “all-road” riding. I can get up all short steep hills we’ve got in Central MO. The 48x11 gives me all the high end I need. Only time I notice the jumps is when I’m in a larger group and I’m not dictating the pace/cadence.

Yeah, Obviously its not the choice to rule them all, and I'm not exactly a 1 bike kinda guy either. This is for pure fun and trail shredding madness, snow stuff, whatever. you know, being an idiot kid again.
