Look KG76 Hinault frame with bubbling/corrosion - is this a problem?

This is a beautiful KG76 frame which rides really nice. There’s some sort of bubbling going on on the carbon tubes next to many of the bonded joints. All of these little white-ish spots are actual raised bubbles in the top coat, it feels like. What is this and is it serious? Or can the bike still be safely ridden?

Isnt that the same thing that started with the Six13 frames?

Likely galvanic corrosion and that frame is 20+ years old right? Time for wall art. Not a matter of if, but when it fails.

Send it to The Badger, he'll scare the corrosion right out of that frame

It was well made for the time. nothing at all wrong with em, but that's finished.

I love my Looks. It's probably OK but it's also nearly a 30-year old frame at this point. I wouldn't chance it. There are so many other options out there.

The bubbling on the carbon doesn't worry me. That's just the clear coat. The thing that would possibly concern me would be the aluminum lugs separating from the carbon tubes.

Probably best to look for a 585! They're like your Look, just better in pretty much every way!

Bubbling clear coat on a carbon tube over an aluminum lug is pretty much all the evidence you could ask for to predict lug separation.

If you use a trainer regularly It could live there for years. Besides wall art you could cut it up and make pencil holders ect. But the good news is that you are going to get a new bike day!

That's because there is nothing to be done. Short of taking it apart and rebuilding with and rebuilding with an isolation material. Unless there's some historic value, its hard to justify the cost.

Calfee uses or used titanium for dropouts to avoid galvanic corrosion.
