Opinions welcome: tan sidewall tires on black Shamal wheels for Ti bike

Thanks for dropping by!

Scott Quiring is building me a ti road bike with classic geometry including horizontal top tube.

This bike will be the "functional equivalent" of my Kirk road bike, that is, Chorus 2x12 and Campy Shamal wheels. Continental GP5000 28mm clinchers.

I really like the retro tan sidewalls look in general but I'm not completely convinced that it goes well with black wheels, or ti finish, for that matter.

What's your take?

Also, to complement the tan sidewalls, I'm considering Brooks brown saddle with brown leather bar tape. But, again, is brown an ideal match with ti?

Might be simpler and just as aesthetically pleasing to stay with black sidewalls. Then, I'll go with red flat pedals, red tape, and black saddle.

Thanks for chiming in!

I think gumwalls go with a raw ti frame just fine.. Cant speak to the Shamal part though.

I think it will look nice. I don't have that exact combo that you're planning, but here are a couple of mine.

My Appalachian with tan sidewalls:

Merlin Extralight with blackwall GP5ks on Shamal Ultras. Blackwall are never my first choice but at the time no alternative was readily available.

I’ve seen plenty of Ti frames with tan/brown saddles and bar tape which I thought looked great, but for what is my race bicycle I prefer brighter colours. Hence the red.

Currently have Gravel Kings with gum sidewalls on my Lynskey with Belgium C2 wheels. Also ran Veloflex Masters on the 3T Accelero 40 wheels.

I like the breaking up of too much black so always op for gum sidewalls if possible.

Sorry, too lazy to pull the bike out from behind a mess to take a pic.

Tanwalls always look nice! All though I'm not in love with the cream color used on the conti gp 5000 even though I have them on 3 bikes all with black rims

Black rims with silver spokes

The turbo cottons have that perfect sk8ghtly yellowish hue, will get a pair of the he'll of the north versions next time

If you ride in wet areas with rim brakes gumwalls get permanently filthy.

I’ve found what Continental calls transparent skinwall, which is the tan rather than light sand coloured sidewall, resistant to dirt and stains and easy to keep clean.
