Your friend seems to be focused on the fabrication.
Is he ready for feedback on his fit? I have spoken to several individuals who ordered custom Speedvagens. In some cases Sacha prescribed a fit (based on direct observation at a fit tour) that was different from what the rider was used to. These were in the areas you might expect: saddle height, bar reach, bar drop. IN all cases rider adapted to and embraced the new fit after some initial break-in period. But make no mistake, it was a change that required digestion. I'd be more concerned about the fit than than the fabrication. |

Similar story - when I ordered my marnati, Daniele suggested 56cm, which was larger than I was accustomed to. We agreed 55, and he built it 56cm anyway. He was right, and I’ve sized up since. |

We all are used to what we are used to. Maybe our fit has changed. Maybe our fit should change. I'm no expert but I can tell you that I was once riding a 54 with fit #1, got looked at by an "expert" who changed me to fit #2. Then another expert asked me why am I on a 54? "you should be on a 56!" So I tried the 56 and what a difference. This was a long time ago when I was primarily windsurfing and mountain biking. Looking back, I had no idea I was that far off. I certainly would not order a custom without knowing my fit, being open to change, and finally trusting the builder's fit philosophy. |
