Lots of lonely single bikes on this thread... including mine!

You all prefer to ride in nature solo? Seems like that might be a preference. I think small group rides are great for longer jaunts. But for the 20-30 mile quick escape solo is usually what it is for me.

Most of the time. It is hard to coordinate rides with kids and life. When it works it works but we don’t push it too hard.

I'd prefer to have someone to ride with me, especially in case something goes catastrophically wrong in the middle of nowhere, but I don't have any friends so I go out solo and take my chances.

+1. It's a rare day when I actually have company to ride with.

Near Roosevelt lake in arizona, specifically a gravel road that starts across the street from cholla campground. There are hundreds of miles of dirt roads in the area. It’s very remote and unforgiving conditions otherwise it’d probably be a destination for gravel riding.

A 180 from that shot and you’d see this:

Beautiful area. Remote and unforgiving as stated. Bring plenty of water.

I remember taking my old Kawasaki GPZ 550 from Tortilla Flats out to Roosevelt lake back in 1991. Cool route. Wrong motorcycle for it.

There's no better way to start a day...even just a short ride.

Indeed.
The schedule gives odd pockets of time for riding... and not much leeway for coordinating with or waiting around for others. Though the standing dawn patrol roadie ride works sometimes, but the post-ride coffee lounging is too indulgent almost always.

And here is part of yesterday’s gravel bike...mtb.

Getting lost with only yourself to save you used to be part of the point. With wife and kids, that calculus has changed quite a bit. I've got a couple standing rides with 2-3 friends, sometimes those are solo, but I haven't ridden with a group larger than 10 in forever.
