I've got no problem with the UP, Norco Search, or any other iterations of this in carbon, but I cannot get down with this Seven.
the Why cycles R+ manages similar clearance in Ti without a dropped chainstay. Same with the Search XR in steel. What's that window/reflective thingy on the Warbird v4 chainstay? |

JohnH who frequents here is getting that Seven. I am stoked to see it. Last day of the blue Open. The Relevate top frame bag is awesome. The magnet fastener is really nice.

My guess is that someone tried those long ago and Open revived the design. If you look through pics of the early days of bicycles you can find a lot of crazy designs, some of which were later copied and extolled as a 'new' idea.
