Wow, good catch. I didn’t even notice that, stopped assembling once I found the other damage so he could get a real quote for repairs. He took it to two shops in town here, first one said the derailleur was bent but he wanted to take it to the local Trek dealer. The dealer said he didn’t notice anything wrong and is charging him $150 for a tune-up plus more if he finds anything wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Newer Shimano front derailleurs, at least Tiagra and higher I believe, use a pin under the bolt that allows you to adjust cable angle into the derailleur.
Either way you set it up the cable should be under the bolt, not on top. |

Ha! I was about the post that picture. Thank you Mustang pal, for going above and beyond. I am still using mostly 9/10 speed stuff so I guess it doesn't apply but I do have a bike or two using 11, I have to go check on that.
