Brooks saddle in the rain

Brooks in the rain

Hello All coming into the rain season here and I have my city bike ready with fenders and fat tires .
My question is about my brooks saddle that is great with city/street clothes any saddles you ride on that are as comfortable in street clothes as a brooks and can take rain .

Please Forgive my question if it seems stupid .I am coming back to the bike after a traumatic brain injury it taken a few years to deal with anxiety I had .
Thank you
Cheers

I thought this thread was about Willie Nelson riding a bike.

Saddle got trashed by rain. I did not know how to care for it though.

There are also the Brooks Cambium saddles...

I DON'T think they're nearly as comfy as leather personally. Selle Regals are quite comfy IMO.

Rivet makes water resistant saddles, but right now I've been trying to get a hold of them for a week, and they don't answer, so I'm a bit leery of them.

I never covered my brooks saddles in the rain, perhaps it shortened their life. I think the covers are probably a good idea.

I just use a couple of plastic grocery bags and a rubber band to hold them around my seatpost.

Also, the covers are not for riding, at least the ones that brooks makes. As per Bill Laine of Walbike

Yes and I would be sure that the underside got a nice coating too before the rainy season. Heck, Brooks have been made and used in Britain since the beginning and I have it on good authority that it rains there.

Yes to this. I had one, used a cover until I noticed cows do pretty well in the rain. Take care of your leather & it'll be fine. Wipe it dry after rains, proofhide, and it'll have a long happy life.

I completely soaked and “patina’d“ a virtually new b17 imperial on a pouring rain gravel race. 7 hrs in the slop and I thought it was dead. I had proofide it the night before, let it air dry after the race for 3 days and reapplied proofide/ some obanoffs leather treatment.... the patina stayed scratches from bits of gravel under my ass and some discoloring but honestly it rides soo nice now. The shape came back and I just melt into it. Looking to do a long ride this weekend on it w no chamois it’s that nice.

I figured it’s a saddle. Ima ride it how I ride and if can’t do that I’ll find an alternative. I am ordering the c17 all weather to try tho

I've had the same brooks saddle on my winter bike for 10 years (~15,000 miles) and it's still going strong. It's never had a cover on it but I've always used fenders.

I use brooks saddles on a couple of bikes that see a fair amount of foul weather. As long as you coat the underside with a nice coat of proofhide and a little on the top it should hold up quite well.

I had a brooks on my D2R2 bike this year and rode it in the rain/wet for ~8 hours and it sagged white a bit and lost most of its color. It had its standard once a year propfide coating on it.

I wouldn’t do it again....

I have a few cambiums but haven’t found them nearly as comfortable for me as a well broken in professional.
