Cervelo Caledonia

I've been waiting to see if a thread popped up on this, but hey, let's go.

New Cervelo road model, purported to fit a 35c gravel king but still hecka road-oriented.

I'm into it, but I know I'm a sucker for good product videos, and purple bikes, both of which Cervelo delivered.

3, 2, 1, go!

The advertisement for this bike is pretty great too. Lots more character than I usually give this brand credit for.

I was thinking the same thing. The C3 is a great bike. I hope the Caledonia is heavily discounted on Excel Sports next year, if so I just may upgrade.

That and their perpetual problems with QA.

Actually, do we know that they have general QA problems for a fact, or does this stem from Hambini?

I do recall Luescher's vid on the S5 and its steerer. That's plausible, but that does seem like it would affect just that model.

I ask because in this thread on Slowtwitch, the OP there said that their LBS claimed that Cervelos failed. They're much more popular in the tri world, so clearly there's some bias there, but most posters felt that Cervelo frame failures (broadly defined, it seems) weren't widespread.

It's sad to me that what used to be an engineering first company is now just releasing boring me-too bikes about 5 years too late and endlessly iterating on old designs. It's called the Caladonia because of the awful road near where their Toronto HQ was. Now they're moving out of Canada and anything good about Cervelo is already long gone.

From people I know who have owned Cervelos, they seem to have failures that require warranty replacement more than many other bike brands. Lots of cracks around the bottom bracket in some older models. Then they had some with some absolutely horrendous shift cable routing that was constantly creating problems. Don't have good data, but talk of Cervelo's poor engineering has predated today's generation of youtube channels.

Providing some context: Riding in Northern New England (NH/VT) means riding dirt roads, because more roads are unpaved than paved. Some of the them are smoother than the cracked tarmac. Note that this is not "gravel".

Two local LBS' have discontinued carrying Cervelos due to the many warranty replacements. This is in comparison (incidence rate at LBS) to other carbon brands.

One of them is now carrying OpenUP. Lots of cracks with them at the seatstay - bb junction. So I am hearing that they will likely be a thing of the past as well.

I received emails from a number of etailers announcing the new Cervelo's and moved said emails to the trash folder without opening them.
