Ha it could happen……it is one of those bikes I’ve never ridden. I put the Enves on it and it’s been sitting in my office ever since.

My first bike was a JC Higgins Sport Flite. It looked like the one in this photo but was a single speed with coaster brake. We lived on Oahu in the late 50’s through the 60’s. The roads in our area were crushed coral gravel. That bike saw a lot of gravel but also single track that my brother and I built through the woods behind our house. We also built jumps that we flew off of. So, it was also my mountain bike before mountain bikes were a thing.

The Salsa Las Cruces was gravel bike before it was a thing.. had mounts for disc or cantis/mini-Vs.. this was a really nice, wonderful riding bike and could scoot around a cross course as well!

two other very honorable mentions is the last iteration of the Salsa Casseroll

And the first carbon Ibis Hakkalugi.. the Lugi was a decent cross bike, but a better gravel bike before it even knew it could be..

Took sometime to put my 1998 Litespeed Ocoee together. A few little touches to finish off, for now it is ready to ride. A bit heavier than I invisioned it ending up but, lots of directions to go lightening it up.

Currently it has some neat old school parts on it, a 1 of 500, was NOS Cane Creek World Bicycle Relief 110 Reserve Headset, XC Pro thumb shifters, seat post and grease guard hubs, XTR first generation XTR FC-M900 Crankset, Sakae PowerBulge Titanium Handlebar, Avid Speed Dial Titanium levers, Gary Fisher cages, Fox 32, Series F100RLC fork, Dart and Smoke tires ......etc.

The length of the front air valve had me thinking "mullet" for one moment there!

Always cool to see great frames from the 26" era getting a new lease on life.

At the Marin Museum of Bicycling swap meet on Saturday I found myself unable to resist buying a little-used pair of early, rim-brake CrossMax wheels, though mainly for the 12-34t XTR cassette attached to them. Hubs from the Helium school of design, and light as the proverbial feather! $50, gads!

'70s Motobecane Le Champion with TA triple crankset and 32mm tires.

Old hybrid frame (Diamondback?) with Bruce Gordon Rock 'n Road tires, Race Face cranks, Shimergo drive train. (Campagnolo 10 speed shifters, Shimano 8 speed casette and deraileurs.)

I love both of those. I wish I could find an old hybrid that had a light-gauge steel frame. So many of them were overbuilt, given their intended audiences.
