Current? Closer to the 30-ish range, so 60 would be a big change.
Seeing how the responses indicate a split-decision and nicer new wheels are not an insignificant investment, rethinking making the jump. Maybe 40-ish is a better call. Thanks for the comments. |

On my older bike I had 27mm deep alloy rims and then 33mm carbon BORAs. Neither was a problem in the wind, sure big gusts would knock me about at times but the wheels were not a part of it. Now, with the Pursuit I went carbon BTLOS and settled on 40mm. While waiting for them I worried I should have gone deeper. But, I don't race so figured it really did not matter.
However, I do find they can be iffy at times. When going down a hill at about 30-40mph, and a truck goes past in either direction, I find the swirling wind will cause the front wheel to feel a bit unstable. Not enough to be really dangerous but it can be disconcerting. Were I to replace them I'm pretty sure I would not go deeper than 35mm. Tim |

I got a pair of Campy Bora rim brake WTO 60s on closeout. I've been riding in Minnesota.
Recently, there was enough of a crosswind where I felt a bit of steering input. It made me a bit uncomfortable. I'm a smaller rider. I can probably get used to it, however - I've just rarely ridden deep wheels before. I was totally open to the 45s, but couldn't find those on closeout. Anyway, take note that the Bora WTO rim brake versions are pretty recent, but I am not sure if the rim profile is state of the art. So there may be wheels that are more stable than this. |
