I swear by Defeet Blaze. They're thick as all get-out, but work a treat.

I have both. The Woolie-Boolies are warmer (thick, soft wool). In fact, perhaps too thick for your summertime cycling shoes. I use either Wooleators or Thermeators (a bit warmer than the Wooleators) in everything between 32-55 F with some show covers.

Ditto re my experiences with both.
But, I still have a few pair of nice thick Smartwool socks just above ankle cut that I love

I like the Paul Components wool knee socks...they're great with knickers, but under long tights they give some added insulation below the knee when cold or a bit wet outside........

X-Socks Ski race socks. Even though this is a cycling thread, it's winter. We really should all be skiing. or boarding.....

Nice! Thanks for pointing them out; wasn't aware of them before.

One of my favorites is the Planet-X Thicky Merino. Have a bunch in Lion of Flanders and wear them a lot on and off the bike. Wish they had a 6" vs 5" cuff, though...

I've got a 'princess and the pea' butt. Changing thicknesses of socks throws me off.

So it's summer socks all year for me

Mostly Smartwool

Smartwool socks also don't come in a large enough size for my not-even-that-big feet. Defeet and Darn Tough do.

I have found off-brand merino socks to be hit or miss. Bought a bunch of from Costco maybe 5 years ago, and those are amazing and I still wear them. Then I bought some from Aldi and some online place, and the quality was very meh. Should've bought more of the Costco ones!
