scary to see...but i think hes probably fine, his back is probably supremely unhappy but he landed about as well as you can possibly land in that situation (ie, not on your head).

Yeah but I bet he rather do a flip into a pool than a road at 35 MPH

:-)

Down to the last second there--I did not think Nibali was going to pull it off, but great finish. In the replay, it looks like he ALMOST sat up too early, but those angles can be deceptive.
Epic win by Nibali! I know what you mean but I was more worried about the shot with under 300m to go, he sure did looks like he was gonna get caught. As you said, those angles are very deceptive - he had 1-2 bike lengths in the end.

im always amazed by how chill these guys are about crashing.
i went down ONCE on pavement, at low speed, not racing, whacked my head and that was enough for me.

You must have missed the Sarcasm, in regards to Cav going down on his own last year during the Tour De France and Sagan getting disqualified. Sagan's elbow never connected..

To me, the clear cut sign that someone needs to hang it up, is when they lose race sharpness. Lance, Contador and now Cav. They lose the situational awareness that made them so great, and it feels like Cav is at that point. Contador was in the same boat, as was Lance. Just going down on stupid trivial things. I guess that's the equivalent of Father time in the NBA catching up to guys.

I love the quote from someplace I don't remember at the moment (2.5 negronis in, presently) but the gist was that the sprinters wanted to sprint while Nibali wanted to win. Whatever. Nibali is a hitter and I love his style.

Great race

Worried that Cav would have broken his wrists as bike stopped and he didn’t....
