Tip for Garmin Edge 1000 Users

A known issue with this computer is that the power button can easily break. The rubber cover tends to crack over time, making it difficult, if not impossible to turn the unit on and off.

If your power button is still intact, I recommend that you cover it in a layer of Crazy Glue. This will protect the rubber from cracking over the long-term, and doesn't effect the operation of the unit.

I did this a few months ago when I noticed the rubber on my power button starting to degrade, and there's been no further deterioration since.

Interesting. I've had mine 2 years and there is no sign of this happening so far. Is it that the plastic cracks and then water gets in and wrecks the button?

Amazing Garmin can screw this up after so many years of building GPS receivers that are waterproof and vibration proof.

Thanks...does the 1030 have the same issue? I'm thinking of upgrading from the 800...

No, it's not an issue with water, the button just becomes unusable. For some, it comes completely off the unit.

The button on the 1030 looks to be different so I don't think it will suffer from the same problem as the 1000.
