The Black Crowes' cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds has a tremendous bassline.

Wow. Apparently there are a lot of good Bass lines.

And oh snap! Someone mentioned Barney Miller... But of course!

Speaking of TV shows I love Seinfeld but I always hated the bass playing in it

Many good lines already posted and many of the obviously explosive and up front ones for sure...

I'll add:

Tina Weymouth on Slippery People (Talking Heads)
Steve Rodby on Last Train Home (Pat Metheny)
Chuck Rainey on Black Cow (Steely Dan)

Rio by Duran Duran. Such a great bass line from John Taylor.

Thumbs up for someone else appreciating Cliff Burton. I am so glad I was able to see him live during those early years with Metallica. The 1985 Day on the Green was something special to behold.

Geddy Lee's part in Big Money. There is something about it that stands out for me.

All this being said my top is still Bernard Edwards with Chic. From Good Times to Le Freak to I want your love. His playing along with Tony Thompson on the drums, what I would do to have seen Chic perform live back then.

If you can separate Flea from the absolute dreck that is Kiedis, he is good. Unfortunately, that taint is hard to wash clear.

Agreed. I never cared for Kiedis or much of RHCP.

Flea is amazing...I saw him with Jane's Addiction 20 years ago. So good.

Chuck Rainey's playing on Aja
Paul Simonon of The Clash super under rated - simple but groovy

Now that my 7 y.o. is playing guitar, I'm going to pick up the bass again this winter.

Waaay too many late night hang sessions listening to this stuff in college!
Guess Who's Coming To Dinner and of course Legend never left the 5-CD player.

This one, because Geddy Lee says Chris Squire inspired him to play bass
Yes RRHOF induction with Geddy Lee on bass:

This video claims to have the top 10 bass lines:

John Taylor is an excellent bass player. Duran Duran's "Planet Earth" is also good display of his talent

also,

Pretenders: "My City was Gone"

I drove through the entire state of Ohio last week, and that bass line was in my head the whole time

Also, Tool - Schism, U2 - New Years Day, and I've always loved the way that the bass carries the emotion of the Cranberries Zombie.
