Ti version of Llewellyn chain hanger?
Has anyone seen a Ti version of this brilliant hanger Llewellyn uses?

I have not, but planned on asking Steve Potts if he would make one when my frame is in for modification (currently using the plastic clamp on one).
If you find a source, please advise. |

Paragon has a different style chain hanger, if that appeals to you. https://www.paragonmachineworks.com/...in-hanger.html

Columbine
Just to add credit it is a design that Columbine introduced.

Have you seen that applied to the chainstay? I have similar on the lower portion of the seat stay but the Columbine approach seems much more sensible.

Valid question, I assume cost. By the time it's brazed in place it's probably a $50-$75 adder so probably only viable on custom frames. Every custom frame builder I've purchased from has offered them.
My wife and I have them on all our custom steel chain driven bikes and the plastic strap on version on our Ti bikes. Functionally the seatstay hanger isn't in the same ball park, the Quickchainger catches the chain as you pull out the wheel (as long as you shift into the smallest cog), no fuss no muss. Folks have mentioned a plastic strap-on version. Who makes this?

I have one that I bought from Rivendell, but they don't seem to carry it anymore. FWIW, It's great if your bike is vertical when you remove the wheel, and remains vertical, such as in a work stand at home. It's less effective, but still nice to have if you are changing a flat while out riding. If/when you lay the bike on its side, the chain can slide off. Or, if you don't hold the bike near enough to vertical when you remove the wheel, the chain can miss the hanger. Chris Last edited by cp43; 02-24-2021 at 03:12 PM. |

$5.50 each, that's a no-brainer! Thanks.

Roland DellaSanta and Peter Weigle braze a “nub” on the DS seatstay to serve a similar purpose.

As stated above the nub on the seat stay is a different beast and was common on many stock frames for a period.
The Columbine hanger is pretty neat, but I'm not aware of a Ti version. It might not be difficult to fabricate one for a Ti frame, but it would take the materials and time so certainly wouldn't be free. I have the stainless version on a custom steel frame and have used the plastic version on a stock Ti frame. Untitled by ColonelJLloyd, on Flickr |
