Narrower feel for Shimano shifters?

Forgive me if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything on here or the greater interwebs. I have multiple bikes and all but one have Sram on it. The outlier, my Serotta CoA, has Ultegra 6800 and I really like the feel of the Sram shifters in my hands and feel the 6800s are a bit too wide and flat.

Has anyone experimented with using cut up bar tape or some non-Shimano brake hoods to mimic the narrower feel of Sram shifters? Other ideas?
