I am on an Apple MacBook Pro at the moment and prefer it to the Windows environment. I am well versed in both but prefer the Apple. I am using bootcamp with the apple and also have Windows XP loaded as well for when I need to have a Windows machine. Best of both worlds but prefer to stay with the Apple operating system when feasible.
The only downsides to bootcamp are that you must reboot to get the other system and you have to buy XP as well. |

buy an updated version of what ever you have now.

A) If you use windows at work buy that. B) If you voted for Obama and make your own shopping bags, buy an Apple. C) If you eat canned food, watch subtitled movies (only), and like searching the internew for software drivers (all the time), buy any windows based PC and load one of the (must be) thousand different flavors of Linux (pronounced lennox) on it. They used to make a computer specifically for your use and soon I think they will again (I forget it's name but it did email, browsed the Internet and you could watch movies I think, it had a very small hard drive or none at all I remember (the OS was flashed to a chip). They will call it an appliance. your needs listed are very minimal.

Mac for sure. OSX update frequently, NEVEr has been a virus on OSX, and the genius bar in the apple stores solve all problems between hardware and software with no finger pointing.
Plus with full integration, stuff like printer drivers just work automatically. Frankly, no comparison given the uses you have. |

Oh, buy a refurb unit through apple website. cheaper and they in my mind are better. last model Pro is quite a unit for the price too but heavier.
New macbook really a nice unit. |

Other than for bike stuff, by motto is usually "Buy it because you need it, not because you want it." I guess that explains why I'm typing this on a Windows 98 Dell desktop purchased in Oct 2000.

I would say Mac if price is not a consideration and PC if it is. I prefer the Mac but it's hard sometimes to justify paying so much more even with Mac's many perks.

Apple . . .
Macbook . . . 13", 4Gb RAM, 320 drive. I just ordered one. I'm planning to use it as my main machine. Totally portable, fast enough to use as a main computer, I can transmit photos from the field for freelance work . . . I'm stoked.
Not as cheap as Brand X Windows machine, but I've already got an old Mac and this made all the sense for me, considering software I already have. I've also never had any virus problems with my Mac. I've got a friend who got a refurbed Macbook and he's uber happy with it . . . BBD

Apple for almost 15 years, and never looking back. Runs Mac OS, and Windows.....why would I buy a PC? And no, I don't make my own shopping bags, and yes I did vote for Obama. And even if you use a PC at work, a Mac at home will just reaffirm your purchase!!
But serious, buy what you want to buy. You can get great configurations with both OS environments, so just decide what you want.......don't let us decide for you.

I've used both OS for years, and there's no question, based on your needs, that Mac OS is the way to go. Over a year ago I went back to Mac (MacBook Pro using Leopard) and have NOT looked back. The reason, clean, fast, and with the dual processor, I can run both XP and OS.
The world with Apple is FAR BETTER than PC. Hands down!!! |
