psssh, i do Waterdog on a fully rigid singlespeed and Rapha
*i've ridden it 100x's growing up in San Mateo, that trail is equivalent to the bunnyslopes at a ski resort... total overkill on the 5"+ and armor there, Softy! Last edited by benitosan1972; 03-29-2012 at 09:43 PM. |

Waterdog itself is pretty tame but the nearby jumps at Carlmont are definitely not.. Waterdog is worth the trip - helps to have a local to show you around. PM me if you want to join a ride.

Bay Rides
Come join the fun on the Devil Mountain Double in late April. We'll guide you from the start in San Ramon, thru Danville, up Mt. Diablo via Southgate, descend Northgate, over to Clayton, out Morgan Territory, thru Livermore, over Altamont Pass, then Patterson Pass, up Mines Road, climb back side of Hamilton, Sierra Road, around the Reservoir Loop, descend Niles Canyon, climb Palomares Canyon and finally Norris Canyon.
It's an easy 206mi/18,500' jaunt. The Quacks host a ride not to be missed. Extraordinary support on road, big eats post ride. Just a terrific gang. The fools on the ride are a good group too. Get your bike and get registered. And pet the goat. Peter |

I appreciate the help
Thanks for all of the support and ride offers. I will certainly be in contact for mountain biking partners. My wife and I (and sometimes the dog in a trailer) like going on weekend tours with the camping gear if anyone is interested in making it a slow group camping trip.
Being from the midwest, I assure you that I do not currently own anything with 5" of suspension, nor do I own body armor. Perhaps I could use my hockey gear and throw a couple hip checks at the trees in my way. Also being from the midwest, I will need to investigate these concepts you speak of such as "elevation," "incline," and "climbing." I am currently searching wikipedia for answers. I may take you up on the group road biking events as well, though my road biking only consists of a few years of daily commuting, solo rides, and riding with my wife. I am probably in good enough shape to keep up with most groups, but I'd need to become educated on the niceties of riding with others. Thanks again for all of the insight. I appreciate it. |

another really fun thing to do is to go up to northstar-at-tahoe and do some lift-assisted downhill. it's a lot of fun...my now 12yo cleaned her first black diamond last summer on her 5" safire. us, we rent DH rigs there. I have no use for a 40+# 8" travel bike anywhere but there. you can rent full face helmets and armor...it's a blast!
as for road...there are enough bumps around here you can easily do 50/5000 without even going west of 280 if you just grunt around the mid-pen...although way more satisfying to see or head out to the ocean. Quote:

If you on the Peninsula & ride road, the initiation is to ride OLH/Page Mill, then post your PR here. If you ride MTB, do Skeggs/Corte Madera. It's what everybody rides around here.
Mt Hamilton/Mt Umunum for South Bay. Mt Tam for Marin, Mt Diablo for East Bay. |
