A C60 from Italy (2 or 3 guys out there have dealz) with Chorus 11 and Shamals Milles. There would be enough left over to splurge on carbon bars.

End of the year deal on an S-Works Tarmac (etapz) or Hi Mod Evo (9150). If MSRP is $11,000, you'll find them marked down to $7000. If you ask, the price will drop another $500 and the shop will eat the sales tax.

Open UP with Force and ENVEs. (one online dealer can build this out-da-door for $6000)

Another Ti frame maybe ?

I was thinking for your BMC SLR01 but was unsure, I hear they are great and was hoping to get your ride report.

I'm with you on building up a bike instead of buying new unless you came across a steal.
C60 and BMC both sold. Waiting for a new ti frame to arrive at my desk. The only thing I question is if the handling can be good enough to make me not miss the C60. Otherwise, I don't see myself looking back to carbon in the near future (mostly due to environmental preferences).

My fit is easy to find on other builds - but I'm pretty particular about spec. When I look at complete bikes, I am always looking at the parts I'd have to swap and end up just doing piece meal.

Personally I endorse this n=3 policy. Problem is that to liberate space for #2 I'd have to part with my Gios and that ain't gonna happen.

Easy, just consider your Gios to be "rolling art", get a nice wall-mount for it, and take it out once a month to re-up its patina..

There are many ways to achieve N=1 without deprivation

I posted my Cyfac just for laughs really. It's very unlikely that I would spend $6000 all on one bike. That's not my usual style. I like to get as much bike for my buck as I possibly can. Just as an illustration, below is a quick and dirty and very rough estimate of my bike spend$ to date. The reason I can accomplish this is through luck, patience, knowing exactly what I want, creative sourcing, driving old used cars, cash at hand and ready to buy anytime, and most importantly with the help and generosity of this community (PSA galore!) and my local co-op. I am only sharing this information to make a point that I have always believed in and trying to make whenever I can - you don't have to always go through the traditional routes, there are many other alternatives out there if you care to look or are willing to explore. Be adventurous, willing to take a bit of risk, learn how to build a wheel or do your own wrenching, and lastly, be creative.

Giant Defy (frameset) free*
Cyfac Absolu (frameset) $260
Nashbar touring (framset) + shipping $120
Eddy Merckx MX Leader (frameset) $350
Serotta CX II (frameset) $450
Surly long-haul trucker S&S coupled (frameset) $550
Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra (Complete) $750
Bianchi Mini Velo Lepre (complete) + shipping $750
Merlin Titanium Cross (Complete) + Shipping $850
Rivendell Standard Road (complete) + packing/shipping $900
Taylor ritchey breakaway custom (frameset) + Shipping $1,400
Co-motion Periscope torpedo tandem (complete) $1,600
Bicycle parts (8 complete groupsets), wheelsets $2,000
Richard Sachs S&S coupled (complete) + packing/shipping $2,400

Total $12,380

So true...plus the pain and suffering of trying to sell OEM parts/wheels.

I am having a no.22 drifter built for a little north of your current budget. It's the first time I've ever spent that kind of $ on a new bicycle, but I plan on using it a lot.

Depends. If I'm using parts I've got in the shed, then can get pretty wacky with a Time Izon or Scylon.

But if the $6k is a full bike? Probably a Giant TCR Advanced in the price range to scratch any carbon itch.

Or alternately, buy an exquisite Jeffrey Bock and equip it however necessary to make the budget . . . his work is unbelievably beautiful!

I have my perfect road bike...

I'd probably talk to TK about the perfect spectrum all rounder'. Or I'd go after a 60s De Rosa.
