Hopefully improved ergonomics. The bump at the end of the hood is awful

On the video, the new Ekar levers look like SR wrl (smaller, lower, with textured rubber), but the lever action seems to be mechanical.

it would appear that from the shot of the shifter, that the lever is carbon as opposed to aluminum. So i would guess that will be marketed as a more market option to regular ekar, whether that means lighter weight or electric we'll have to see.

i agree that the footage of it shifting looks mechanical, so perhaps this is simply Ekar Chorus? Ekar Record?

of course the ad doesn't necessarily have to reflect all of the features 100%, so perhaps even though the ad shows 1x, this new group will have an option for 2x.

I would love if they're taking some sort of backwards marketing approach where a wheelset update gets weeks of promotion but a new groupset is promoted for only a few days. Perhaps they changed approaches after the last release.

My thoughts as well.

Regarding the double release - might be e.g. wider Shamals released at the same time, not necessarily a hint towards 2x group.

This one might be also a lower tier Ekar, with Ekar wrl coming sometime next.

That would be great...I really don't want to upgrade to a new version before I've finished my current install.

if they updated Ekar and Shamal in the same week that would be just my luck. I n th elast week I just purchased current gen Ekar and Shamal. but if it was just 21mm to 23mm i think i could live with it. I have to ask myself how much difference 2mm makes on any measurement on the bike. Be it saddle height, stem length, crank length, tire width, wheel ID.

Double could just mean two announcements coming on one day.

Say Ekar and a wheel set.

Can't see how why they would make a 2x EKAR drivetrain. Would it be 2x13? I thought they could not do that. A 2x12 system would not seem like EKAR to me. A lower price point EKAR with a modified thumb lever is my guess.

I personally have zero issue with the thumb lever and much prefer it over the "traditional" thumb button.

The other guess would be eps EKAR. Would be smart to get that out there.

I've already got something similar to 2x Ekar with my 46/30 grx cranks, 10-44 cassette and Force AXS electronic shifting, with extended range RD cages. There's enough wrap capacity for the 46/44, but I'll never use it on purpose. I have used it accidentally a few times.

I've got a new 12 speed grx 46/30 crank on one bike but haven't had it out on the road yet. Maybe tomorrow if the roads dry out.

$128 for the 12 speed crank is really cheap.

Industry types I know say it’s a less expensive Ekar. I thought Ekar was already a good value.

Agreed. It has been available on Merlin for ~$1000 for at least 1-2 years. What I find interesting in the video is they show the crank, and shifter - letting everyone know that it is a single ring and a thumb lever but there is zero image of the RD.

Can't believe they would have an eps EKAR - given the cross riders using SRW.

Next up is

Centaur 12 speed. I wanted SR WRL to be 13, not that is needed, but more is better right?

Looks like it might be a cheaper ekar indeed, but with better shaped hoods. Ekar gt?

If you look closely, the wheels on the video seem to be low profile, box section, G3 laced. Perhaps new wide aluminum Zonda? Or wider carbon Shamals?

It also makes a lot of sense to release similarly targeted group and wheels together.
