Fenders for 650b x 48mm tires?
Found a couple of options, but none are ideal. I'd prefer aluminum, like a VO, but they only make up to 52mm wide in 650b. Also found the Planet Bike Cascadia ALX, which comes in 60mm width, which seems about right. Don't like the mounting setup on those though...
Anything I'm missing? Maybe re-radius some 700c fenders to increase the width a bit and decrease the radius? TIA! |

Berthoud 700 x 60 maybe. I'll be facing this same question. Max Kullaway has the answer, I just forget what it was.

Crust lists Honjo H60 on their page, I believe to fit the Romancer with compass sbh (650x48mm)

That particular bike packing trip along MTB trails made fenders a pretty poor choice, but I was too lazy to remove them before heading out. I wrecked one stay with something (fender line stayed perfect, though!) and rattled off one draw bolt (my own fault). The Honjo H95s are nice, but they're so expensive. I don't really dig smooth, round fenders so the VOs were about the only game left. I'm happy with them and will buy another set in the spring after abusing mine. I don't even know what brand of fenders I have on my Surly trucker, I took them home from the co-op. It has Compass SBH 48mm on it at the moment.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not looking to spend Honjo type money, so those are out. Right now I'm leaning toward a set of 700C VO and re-radius them to fit 650b. I'll have to measure if I have enough room for 66mm wide fenders though, might be an issue.
Also, Looks like VO is working on something, there is a picture and quick sentence about some weird wavy pattern 650bx58mm fenders they say are for 42 to 48mm wide tires in their blog. Hopefully they will have different styles too, as I don't like the look of those... I'll never run anything wider than the Compass SBH tires, what's the minimum fender width for a 48mm wide tire? Thanks! |

Not to thread jack but I'm building up my first road bike with "small" wheels and big tires and the thought of fenders gets me hung up. I expected to use fenders only for more typical width tires on traditional wheels - 700x38s - and then remove them for the wider ones on smaller wheels, which I'd probably only ride in nicer conditions in the summer.
Is that typical thinking for swapping wheels between bikes? Theoretically this frame had clearance for 29"x2.1" tires without fenders so maybe if I can find a fender that takes something almost that big I can just run the 650s on the same frame and it will look funny but work? (Can you tell I hate touching fenders once they're set up?) |

Just found another possible option from PDW. I think they are new, see below. I little on the narrow side, and a little more than I wanted to spend, but they look like a quality product.

Cascadia ALX is a solid choice all day. A bit crude looking but depends on the bike
Tanaka makes a 650 x 50 in colors that SOMA (Merry Sales) sells. 50 doesn't really do it with a 48 tire though. |
