Prime Minister of the Netherlands arriving for a meeting via armored motorcade
Imagine living in a place where one of the top heads of government commutes to work like this.

Rim brakes, fenders, and panniers. Looks OK to me.

I'm in favor of creating bike lanes, even at the cost of traffic lanes. In other words, going into NYC cut out one lane, and make it a bike lane. And if things back up, the people can move away like they are already doing.

One aspect of this is that in the Netherlands, as in many countries, unlike the US, the head of state is separate from the head of government. Ceremonial trappings are more expected with respect to the head of state. Constitutional monarchies are the obvious example but others have presidents with only residual/ceremonial powers (Germany, Israel, India to name a few).

...and a full chainguard / internal gear hub. Riding one-handed, briefcase dangling from the handlebar, whilst eating an apple. Good showing.

Bavarian Minister of Interior Joachim Herrmann can often be spotted using his bike to get around in Munich (his ministry is somewhat spread out about the town center). Unless its an official photo op, he doesn't bother about a helmet, either

Those cops must not be very observant if he has to lock his bike there

The Portuguese president goes to the public beach and goes shopping at the local supermarket. And talks to everyone, ect.
And the prime minister rides his bike around. Its a different world out there Last edited by R3awak3n; 09-30-2020 at 05:28 AM. |

I thought the Netherlands was a parliamentary based system? If he is the prime minister, that would make him basically the "head". No?

King is the "head". Constitutional monarchy.
