Any comfy casual shorts that work for cycling ?
No chamois bad or otherwise, but still don't get uncomfortable on a bike?

I like the Columbia Global Adventure shorts to MTB or just potter around town on the roadie. I think most other lightweight hiking shorts would similarly fit the bill.

Rapha shorts are fairly comfortable on the bike and feel great off the bike. I've had such luck with Swrve and Mission Workshop too

A good set of wicking golf shorts should work pretty well, as they are flexy enough to account for the movement but also made of fabric that won't take on water like a sponge.
The best pair I've used are the ones in the Maide line by bonobos. They also have a nice tacky strip inside the belt line that prevents them from slipping down. Pricey but you can usually get them with a decent discount through sales or promos. |

I do some riding in countries where lycra just won't be acceptable (and in fact may get me harrassed by locals/police) I tried several loose MTB shorts and hated all of them- fit weird, not comfortable. I just use a pair of lycra shorts as underwear and light loose fitting shorts on top for modesty. What's worked best are Prana yoga shorts, they have pockets, light enough that they don't get hot or bunch up noticeably in the crotch, dry quickly (for traveling) have a little stretch and look "normal" enough to work. I seem to find these frequently on sale or clearance racks at REI, they're my favorite summer shorts on or off the bike, for hiking, going to the gym, even slight "dress up" shorts for going out with friends. The ones I like are the "mojo" model.

I'm with the Club Ride crowd. I wear mine even when I'm not riding.

I found Dickies Rip Stop shorts in the non-cargo version to be nearly ideal, and at a very low price.
I was having a hard time finding a new pair in my size each season, so this year when I did I went online with the product numbers and was able to buy four pair in a couple of colors (grey/green and black). The 32 for me is a little loose at the waist, so a belt (or zip tie between two belt loops) is needed to keep them in place. Combined with loose-fitting Lycra shorts it's a good combo, and the pockets are correctly configured to hold stuff securely while cycling off road. These are available in a trouser as well! |

Rivendell sometimes sells shorts/pants you might like. "Technical" wicking underpants and neither them nor the outer shorts should have prominent seams in the crotch. Some climbing shorts have a yoke-like crotch which has no seam in the crotch area.

I’ve been using Rapha shorts for casual rides along with their rando shorts. A very reasonable deal on them through sports pursuit.

Rapha rando shorts are great, expensive though

They are under $50 on sportpursuit.com not sure if they are still available, but they were last month. My bad I was referring to the touring shorts. Thought they were rando. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by Hilltopperny; 05-25-2018 at 09:32 PM. |
