I lose 'em so I need 'em cheap. But my dad's a pen guy so if I ever were to develop a soft spot for a fine pine, I'd go with something from Lamy (https://www.lamy.com/content/product...index_eng.html).

I received one of these in the 80s as a graduation present (Space Shuttle Bullet) and carried for about 15 years in the military before losing it one day. Great pen, never gave me any trouble.

Check out the Retro 51 Retailer Exclusive Designs: http://www.retro51.com/fwi_tor_exclusive.html

If the "Mission to Mars" came in a rollerball, I would be all over it!

Fountain Pen Hospital.

what a store for a pen geek!

i'm much more of a mechanical pencil person myself and have several good ones now that i use daily.

if you have a need to write on a regular basis, you owe it to yourself to get something decent. it's worth it.

good paper helps tremendously also.

i recommend you find a good shop and try a few pens in-hand. it's a better way to decide what you like most.

have fun, i love pens/pencils.
My younger brother who is still in the NYC area knows that place well because he collects antique fountain pens.

I wanted to narrow it down a bit so I do not end up in a shop asking them to show me 50 things.

I normally use a capped rollerball - an old Parker sterling silver - but companies always purchase the cheap legal pads which bleed through when you use a rollerball with liquid ink. This is why I thought the change to ballpoint gel - based on a reco from my brother - would make sense.

Unfortunately I am in lots of meetings, I take lots of notes, and then transcribe what is really important to computer. I simply hate typing on a computer in meetings. I usually respond to emails by going to see the person which means I take notes in ad-hoc meetings as well. I hate email hot potato when a 5 minute conversation saves 45 minutes of email back on forth.

The Parker roller will be used at home where I will spend my own money on quality paper. At work, I need a more functional nice ballpoint pen. I press down to hard so fountain pens and pencils have really never worked for me.

Keeping with a space theme, why not a star wars movie pen.

Sorry but I do not feel that bad since FPH has it on sale now.

You and can also try Art Brown in Midtown (https://www.savingspros.com/). I went to grade school with the kids of the owners (The Brown family) but I am not sure they are connected with the current iteration of the shop.

I think it uses the Pilot G2 refill. Looks similar to a Fisher space pen.

Via Colorado Pen's website:
Retro 1951 Tornado rollerball pens use a capless rollerball refill, just like the pen had when originally purchased. The Schmidt P8126 refill, our searchable item number is R4612, fits perfectly and writes just like the original Retro refill; it is the original as Schmidt makes the Retro branded refills.

Retro designs their pens to accept a ‘Parker-Style’ ballpoint. Options abound!

Via Retro51's website:
The Retro 51’s are nice. I bought a number of Ti ones a few years ago. Parker refills and tough as nails. They take anything and get better looking with age.

Perfect.

In a similar vein, I've recently been using a tablet with an EMR pen. But otherwise, I really think that the Uniball deluxe is better than any other pen period. The pentel sign is also pretty good as well as the Pigma Micron pens. But then I'm weird because I like to draw with them.

You could take it up a notch and use a Sherpa pan cover for those disposable Uniball deluxe rollers.

I sure would not use them; I can't/won't use an ultra fine. I like fine or medium but I also realize that most people have no issue stealing/borrowing disposable pens so I am not sure by getting the .38 ultra fine you are protecting yourself.
