2007 Seven Axion SG

Since I've fallen in with the likes of Clean and Lavi and also purchased a Peg Marcelo frameset that should arrive in the next week or so I thought it was time to post some of my rigs.

I raced this bike in 2007 and part of 2008 and it's the only bike I've kept for more that five years. My buddy and his wife were working for Seven at the time and he is a former pro that had raced on an Axiom painted as a Bianchi so knew the product very well. He also is tall and although we are slightly different physically (I have longer legs and arms, he has twice my power output) I was able to benefit from his experience for my customization and he worked with Palo Alto Bicycles closely to make it happen.

It started with Chorus 10, which was replaced 2016ish by C11 after having the C10 shifters rebuilt by Pegasus Bicycles twice. In 2020 I saw a rim brake Force AXS group at a very attractive price point and decided to change to AXS. I swapped in a Red crankset and a Bontrager XXX carbon barstem a few months ago. I think AXS is fugly in general but on an unpainted ti bike the Red crank looks pretty damn good to me. I need to change out the Silca bar tape - they didn't have black when I changed out the cockpit and even though it looks darker IRL I'm not in love with the color. I ran red tape for quite awhile and that looks good, too.

This one is the keeper for sure!

maybe because of wide angle on camera but that seat tube looks very relaxed. You know what it is?

The first ten or so years I rode it at an 83cm saddle height, now down to 82. Getting older and shrinking!

Are those 34.9mm tubes for the head tube and down tube?
Do you find it too flexy?
Looking at doing a custom Ti frame and don’t like the huge tubes that are the trend now. I weigh 140 and ride a 52cm frame so I am thinking 34.9mm tubes should be fine.

No noticeable flex - I asked for 8 out of 10 stiffness with 10 being the stiffest and 8 of 10 for performance versus lightweight since it was built to race. The main triangle (no, I guess it's a quadrangle?) is 34.9 and the fork is beefy. I think you'd have to be a big, powerful rider to outmuscle it.
