Steel Fatbike Goodness: Surly Wednesday

I've been eyeing up a MTB/Trail/Fatbike for a while, so I pulled the trigger on a used one. Came in a little more beat up than expected, so went for a full strip down and rehab. Swapped out most everything except the frameset, HS, stem, crank arms and the 26" wheelset.

Went with a basic fade for the paint and like the way it came out. Sort of a satin top coat. Built a set of 29"+ wheels to run most of the time in conjunction with two bar options. The Surly Corner Bar for drop-like setup for most things and the Tumbleweed Persuader bar for chunkier days or trail riding.

Some detail highlights are Shimano XT 12s shifting, PNW dropper post, Paul Klampers for stopping and the 29er wheelset is Race Face AR35/Fxyation Hubs/Sapim Race spokes with WTB Rangers 29x3" tires. A little bling in the purple Hope Floating rotors.

YES! This is so sick. Definitely the best Surly I've seen. 10/10. I loved the corner bars.

That fade on the fork in particular is so good.

How do you like the PNW post? I am looking and they seem good but you really have to ride one to see how much it wobbles.

Cool surly! Love 29+ tires.

Ive had an external routed PNW post for 4yrs, never been serviced, and still works as well as when I bought it.

How do you like the corner bars? I want to try them on my XL Krampus, but with the usual surly short headtubes, there would be a lot of saddle to bar drop without a huge stack of spacers.

I haven’t got much more than some setup and a shakedown ride so far but really liking the setup with the Corner Bars. Should work nicely to do group rides on gravel etc and found that I don’t need to swap around stems or much else.

In the pictures I have a TranzX installed but just received the PNW to swap. Needed the adjustability in travel. Nothing but positive reviews though.

PNW sells refurb versions of their droppers at a very steep discount. 1 year warranty etc. Kind of hidden on their site under the ‘About’ menu item. PNW Cycled.
