(2009?) Speedvagen Road

Long time lurker, first time poster (kinda)

Been into road bikes for a few years now, life long BMX rider who started riding big bikes when I hit 30 to try and keep my body in a decent enough condition to continue eating **** at the skatepark on a regular basis.... Little did I know, I would become equally as passionate about big bikes as little bikes.... Guess I just love riding bikes.

My first road bike of any quality is a Fairdale Goodship (steel and pic attached as well) which has racked up over 40,000 miles in all weather conditions and has propelled me to several KOM's and boosted my ego dropping riders on their new tarmac's!.... (humble brag...). I have a rim brake 2016 supersix evo HM as well for when I have the urge to go very fast.

Ever since the first time I saw a Speedvagen I KNEW it was the bike for me and I would have one someday. So much so that I was twice about to pull the trigger on one right from HQ but life obligations stepped in. Like in February 2020 when I was discussing OG-1 with a few upgrades... a few weeks later the world shut down and job security was a question, along with the viability of my wife's coffee shop she had opened 6 months prior.. had to bail to make sure my bills were paid and my life could continue as "normal" as possible.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I was randomly cruising this site out of boredom and saw a rim brake road bike in my size... after much debate I said F it and pulled the trigger. I was told it was recently repainted and repaired at SV headquarters.... Came with the painted to match topper, thompson stem and Enve(EDGE) forks.

I couldn't believe it, the chance at a dream bike!!! Being a 2009 with VANILLA on it… there is a chance that sascha and desavlo may have both laid hands on it!

Currently I'm waiting on a variety of parts to arrive to strip an Ultegra groupset off my existing bike to build the SV and put a Ltwoo groupset on the Fairdale which will be relegated to trainer duty and partially retired after.

I'm undecided on the white fabric carbon saddle (bartape I have is supercaz black with white stars).

I'll do my best to keep this updated with progress and photos.... I'm pretty bad at that...

I'm excited to finish the build and for winter to end and start racking up the miles on this as well! I'm a bigger rider (195 lbs and 6'2") so it WILL get ridden hard.

Seeing the rolling chassis in the basement is killing me. I have an affinity for bright colors, so this black and vanilla theme is gonna be difficult for me to not ruin!

In 2009 Mike was still doing the batch welding and IIRC Sacha would do final brazing. Both had a hand in my 2010 and it's a keeper.

That’s awesome! Sounds like a forever bike! If I like it as much as I hope I do… it may render my supersix a garage queen

Welcome to the SV family.

I picked up a stock pre-owned OG-1 2 years ago. It’s my favorite bike in the current stable. I love it so much that I decided to get a custom ti SV. It’s my first custom ever. I hope this bike brings you as many miles of smiles as it has for me. What parts did you have in mind for the build?

I have owned so many bikes over the years. I ended up with my first Speedvagen this past season and was blown away with how good it rides! Mine is a cx, but easily the fastest bike in my stable. Set some PRs without even trying on my first 3 rides.

Congratulations and enjoy!

i LOVE LOVE LOVE the loud colors. But this cream with the light blue touches and the red "Vanilla Workshop" has grown on me considerably by staring at it across the basement while on the trainer.

Got a few light touches of color planned

Pardon the dirty cluttered basement…. It is a basement after all

BUT WE HAVE A ROLLER.

And 7/9th of my Ali express order showed up to immediately rebuild the fairdale for trainer use…. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted to throw this china groupset on the SV. It feels nice in hand. And these tubolito fakes actually look and feel better constructed than my REAL tubolitos which go flat overnight…

Bonus… the 12$ specialized power saddle knock off… came branded as specialized!

Good pick up! I was tempted by that frame, too. Maybe you can send it a bit farther east if it doesn't work out for you.

Let us know how it works out for you on the road.

I cannot wait to get it out on the road! I've already cleaned and applied like 6 coats of wax to it... because I KNOW myself and will end up riding it outside in mid January in North East.

Hard pass for putting that group on that bike.

It's coming together though - this is going to be a fantastic build!

The pictured group is going on my fairdale and the ultegra from the fairdale is going on the Speedvagen.

I will say it DOES feel quality and i'm excited to try it out.
