Here's a neo classic JK Special that will be picked up today to start its trip east. I think that if bikes had emotions that this one would be happy because it's snowing here today and no doubt warm and dry where it's headed.

After some time away from the bench to deal with some family stuff it feels good to get back to it and work on a lugged JK Special. In a way it’s like coming home again and doing what it feels like I was put here to do. The cliche is that “you can’t go home again” but I’m not sure that’s true.

Today I’ll work on getting the rear triangle added to the front and this will really start looking like a bike and then it’s off to Joe Bell’s for some paint work.

The bike in the above post is now complete and ready to send off to Joe Bell for some top shelf paint work. It's always rewarding to see the frame perched on wheels for the very first time and this time was no exception.

I'm hearing a lot of anecdotal stories of supply chain issues clearing. Are you seeing it with your suppliers?

Component suppliers? Like saddles and cranks and wheels? Or framebuilding suppliers of tubes and flux and that kind of thing?

Oops, sorry for the lack of specificity...I was thinking tubing.

Ironically, I just got back from picking up a new hitch-mounted bike rack and this shop sells nothing but racks & cargo boxes. As recently as 2-3 months ago they had little-to-no stock and now product boxes are stacked everywhere, even on the showroom floor.

Yes, Dave, I recall you saying some months back that you were not building stand alone forks for the moment since the supply of materials was tight enough that you wanted to reserve forks for complete bike sales.

I guess that would be my question: is the supply of fbuilding materials getting better or worse? Or is it a case by case basis?

It feels more case-by-case to me. Some stuff is fine and other stuff just doesn't exist.

I spent a pile of money some time back to have a large stock of fbuilding parts so that I wouldn't get caught out. So far I'm doing well and with any luck the supply chain will be stronger when I start to run low. Fingers crossed.
